obviously, he is initially drawn to cl bc she represents the danger and the edge that he has never experienced in his good-little-boy life. but at some point it stopped being about Dating A Model and started being real and genuine to him.
however, as much as seungri wants to try and save cl, he is attracted the most to her flaws bc to him, they're like her freckles in that they make her seem more human than just a cold figure strutting a runway. his disgust at her cigarettes make her chase him harder, after their fights comes the make-up sex he likes, and when she cries he gets to play hero and make her laugh. this is why their relationship in this scenario wouldn't have lasted: for however much seungri wants to be cl's hero, without her anorexia and her cocaine and her insecurities, he would no longer love her, either.
also i think it's the thought that he was the most addicting vice that buoyed seungri in his relationship with cl, but after he saw that he was easily replaceable by bulimia or drugs, he gave up.
for cl, i think if seungri had actually persevered, she really would've changed for him. she makes problems for herself to get his attention because she also subconsciously knows that's when he loves her the hardest. but also, i think she was waiting for that sign - that he would've stayed with her until the end regardless of circumstance - before she would've really let him save her.
everyone in her life has failed her thus far, and cl has grown used to getting over them quickly, so when seungri gives up on her, she tries to instantly get over him but this time it doesn't work as well since her eating disorder (and drug usage) gets visibly worse by the time seungri sees her on television, whereas before, she had been able to keep it somewhat under control. i don't think she really ever gets over him. seungri on the other hand, is able to move on with his life.
