Orihime sighed as she sat around at the booth with her friends, though she could tell Rukia looked uncomfortable between Tatsuki-chan and Chizuru-chan as they glared at each other. It was interesting how their “rivalry” lasted outside of Karakura High, but that’s what made them so good of friends in her opinion. However, when she told Tatsuki-chan that, she gave her a glare that rivaled Ulquiorra’s.

Orihime smiled as she leaned towards the other girls, Mahana and Ryo, curious as to why she was called here. “Where’s Michuru-chan?” Orihime asked, smiling as usual. Like in high school, the shy girl was always with them.

Ryo looked at Orihime coldly. Orihime always had a feeling she didn’t like her, though it didn’t matter as she smiled nervously back at her. “Last night, Mahana called me with some story about how Michuru and her boyfriend broke up, which was later confirmed when she called me.” She stopped taking a sip of her drink, “Mahana,” she continued, but stopped when Mahana interrupted her.

“I can talk for myself, you know.” She glared at Ryo who rolled her eyes. Orihime looked over at Tatsuki and then, who were having a polite conversation as Chizuru listened in.

“You get your facts mixed up too many times and it gets confusing. Half of the things you told me last night didn’t even happen.”

“You know-”

Orihime interrupted then. “So, Ryo-san, do you want to have a Girls day to cheer up Michuru-chan?” her eyes sparkled as she looked at them.

“Yes,” the other girl replied. “She should be here in a few minutes.” Orihime’s eyes widened. She expected to plan something first. Ryo-san never seemed the spontaneous type.

“N-now?”

“Why else would we call you out?”

She opened her mouth to respond when she was interrupted by Michuru, who still looked the same from high school, the only difference being her hair was a bit longer and her eyes were puffy. Orihime smiled as she moved over letting the girl sit beside her.

Michuru sniffed a hello and looked down. She was a shy person, and Orihime assumed it was hard for her to come out on public like this. “How are you, Michuru-chan?” she asked gently, smiling at the girl. Michuru smiled back at Orihime, whispering that she was okay.

“So what are we going to do first?“ Tatsuki asked crossly, “I have work in a few hours.” Rukia looked at Orihime, sensing she didn’t want to be there, but at the same time she looked excited at the prospect. Orihime guessed it would be a first for her to do something like this. Things had finally calmed down enough for events like this seem more than just a memory.

“Why don’t we shop?” Chizuru suggested with a lecherous grin that made Tatsuki glare. Orihime quickly interrupted, hoping that a fight wouldn’t happen.

“That sounds great! We can also see that new movie that came out, and go to Baskin Robins!” she smiled. “Wouldn’t that be fun, Michuru-chan?”

“Yeah, I guess so.”

“Then lets go!” Mahana yelled standing up and leading the way out as Orihime sighed.

It was going to be a long day.

__________

Orihime’s head started to ache from eating her ice cream too fast as she sat beside Tatsuki who was arguing with Mahana about how stupid the movie was. Chizuru was out walking somewhere with Michuru while Ryo sat reading her book.

Orihime looked around, taking another bite of her ice cream when she saw Rukia across the mall, looking at a store window with her hands pressed against the glass. She stood up and walked over, her eyes widening as she noticed that it was a Bridal shop. She smiled softly as she gazed inside, an ache in her heart watching someone try on a dress.

Orihime stood behind Rukia, who had her mouth open, staring transfixed on a single gown. It was a long, slim gown with a wide train behind it. It was strapless and had some lace on the front. Orihime’s own mouth dropped open as she stared. “Wow,” she mumbled, then looked at Rukia who was blushing slightly. “Is that the dress you want to wear someday?” She felt that familiar envy creep up as she said that, though this time it was different. Much different. Rukia looked at Orihime, startled slightly.

“Huh?”

“The dress.” She stood beside the smaller girl then, still taking bites from her ice cream.

“Oh…no, Nii-sama would never allow it.”

Orihime blinked, but said nothing as Rukia continued to talk. “Plus, I’m a Shinigami. I have many more responsibilities then marrying. Not to mention, Nii-sama hasn’t picked out the right man,” she said softly, with a hint of sadness. Orihime frowned, knowing that whatever she was thinking about had to do with Kurosaki-kun. Things seemed to have become more strained between them then a few years ago. More so since it seemed Rukia was staying more and more in the human world, but at times would disappear for weeks on end. During those weeks, it was scary talking or being near Kurosaki-kun.

She looked at the wedding dress again, her own heart thumping dangerously against her chest. “You know Rukia…I’m really happy right now. Being with Ulquiorra.” She felt Rukia’s gaze turn on her then, more intense than before. “It wasn’t something I expected, but when it did happen, I was scared…” she stopped and took a deep breath, “ scared that he wouldn’t be accepted by everyone.”

Rukia said nothing as Orihime took a bite of her ice cream again. Silence invaded them after a few minutes before Rukia began speaking. “It’s been many years since these feelings started to develop.” Orihime nodded as she continued. “Things are much different now compared to how they were in the beginning. Ichigo is forceful in what he wants. My desires are the same as his, but Nii-sama refuses to speak to Ichigo.”

Orihime waited and spoke.

“But you’re happy, right?” she asked looking at Rukia, who nodded and smiled.

“I am. Very happy, even though he can be an idiot at times,” she smiled softly, “I think Nii-sama knows this. He seems to have accepted that Ichigo will not go away, but is trying to prolong it as fast as possible.”

“I think once Byakuya-san knows you’re happy, he’ll talk to Kurosaki-kun.” Orihime smiled brightly then. “I think he just wants to make sure you‘re happy…that, and he doesn’t want to lose you. Big brothers are protective of their little sisters.” She laughed, blushing and fighting back the feeling of tears in her eyes.

Rukia gave her a solemn look, and then smiled. “You’re right. Plus, they are both stubborn men,” she looked back at the dress, “And I’m sure if he agrees, it would have to be a traditional wedding too. I don’t think Nii-sama would understand the Westerner dress.”

“Oi! Kuchiki, Orihime!” The girls turned as Tatsuki ran up to them, looking angry as the other girls followed up. “I was wondering where you went.”

“Ohhh~” Chizuru stood next to Orihime looking at the dress. “Hime-chan~, you would look so beautiful in that one-OW!” she yelped after Tatsuki hit her upside the head.

“Don’t even start.”

Orihime ignored their bickering, turning to Michuru who looked like she was going to cry staring at the dresses, even though she and her boyfriend were only together seven months.

“Why…” she whispered, sniffling. “Don’t we try them on?”

“Huh?” Orihime looked at her, eyes wide as the other girls looked at Michuru too, also surprised.

“It would be fun…?”

“Hey!” Mahana suddenly called out, “It says you can rent dresses also..” Tatsuki stood beside her at the door reading.

“Oh!” Orihime gasped a smile wide on her face, “why don’t we rent some and dress up as zombie brides for Halloween! It’s in a few days. It can just be a party for everyone we know. Close friends, like Sado-kun, Kurosaki-kun…”

“Ishida-kun also?” Michuru asked fast, her cheeks turning red. Orihime smiled and nodded.

“We can finally meet Orihime’s new man too.” Mahana laughed, making Orihime look down and blush. Ryo interrupted then.

“How exactly are we going to pay for the dresses if they get ruined?”

“Dry cleaners?” Orihime offered, not noticing Rukia walking in with Michuru. Tatsuki sighed.

“It could be fun…and well, we’ll be careful and not get the most expensive dresses anyway.” Orihime nodded before being dragged in by Chizuru.

___

Picking out dresses was harder then Orihime thought it was going to be. There were so many, and it seemed the helpers were just distressed, not to mention relieved when they all left. Orihime held the dress close to her, smiling and blushing as she walked with Rukia towards where they lived. Orihime’s apartment was a few blocks away from the clinic.

The other girls were going their separate ways. Michuru-chan looked better and happier as she left with Mahana to spend the night. Orihime was shocked out of her thinking when she heard Rukia give an amused and dreamy sigh, followed with a light laugh.

“Rukia?” she asked smiling, “what is so funny?” Rukia looked at her and gave her a mischievous smirk.

“I plan on wearing this and surprising Ichigo to see what he thinks. Maybe it will help him make a decision and confront Nii-sama no matter what..” her smirk dropped slightly,
“Plus, I plan to scare him by having Karin and Yuzu put make up on me. The other day, the idiot scared me with one of those laughing skull things,” she huffed and Orihime laughed, imagining how Ulquiorra would react.

“I’m going to do that too!” she giggled, holding the dress harder against her chest. She didn’t notice Rukia’s confused expression.

“Who?”

“Hmm?”

“Who are you going to surprise…?” she asked again.

“Is Rangiku going to be there..” her eyebrows furrowed then, “or…”

“Nothing!” Orihime yelped, giggling. “I just got caught up in your plans!” She put a
hand behind her head, blushing. “I’m surprising no one! Oh look~ my apartment! I’ll talk
to you later Rukia.” With that, she ran the last five blocks to her apartment and up the stairs, into her room.

That didn’t go well. Her friends did not know yet how serious things had become between Ulquiorra and Orihime. Serious being that a few weeks ago he moved in with her. The only person who knew was Sado-kun, and he promised to keep it a secret despite that she knew her other friends were getting suspicious.

But she couldn’t tell them. Not yet, at least.

Orihime ignored the matter as she walked to her room, calling out but no one was there. She sighed as she laid the bag with her dress on her bed. She stared at it for a few
minutes, then began taking her coat and shoes off, in order to clean up and vacuum.

She cleaned up and then looked at her bed again, smiling softly as she walked over and unzipped the bag, touching the soft, white fabric. She then took it out and held it, moving
to look at her self in her small mirror, smiling. She laid it back on the bed as she rushed to undress, though she made sure her door was closed as she slipped into the dress.
It was like a ball gown almost, puffy and beautiful. It held her breast up and had lace on it, with a big bow in the back that tied it up.

She stood and looked at herself then, letting her hair down and smoothing the dress in the front. She smiled and twirled slightly, laughing. Ignoring the sounds of doors opening
and the footsteps that approached, stopping short. She hummed softly, her mind full of images of something she only dreamed about.

“Hmm…that does suit you, rather unexpectedly.”

Orihime jumped, her heart hammering against her chest as she turned around almost tripping on the dress’s train as she saw Ulquiorra standing in the doorway.

“When did you get here?!”

“I live here,” he deadpanned walking towards her, “also, don’t make a fuss, but isn’t it the wrong color?” Orihime laughed as she sighed smiling at him.

“Well, if you want to be technical…I guess it is.” She smiled at him as he looked down at
her, his hand reaching out to softly touch the skirt part of the dress, rubbing
the side of his two fingers on it, and then touching the bow. Orihime smiled at him,
blushing as her palms sweated as she felt excited and nervous.

His hand then touched the lace on the top, tracing the heart shape it gave. Her breath
hitched as he traced it, his finger tips touching her skin softly making her close her eyes.

Everything felt still then, that crying feeling in the back of her eyes returned.

It all felt real, but...

“You should let this dream go, you know,” he suddenly said. Everything felt as if it were crashing down. Her mouth opened, looking at him surprised and slightly hurt by his bluntness.

“Wh-” she started,

“You’re already mine.” His face leaned into hers. Orihime looked right into his eyes, blushing and then looked down, smiling softly.

“Is that true?”

“Yes, though why do you look so flustered at that? I would think that you of all humans
would know that it was a joke.” He smirked slightly and Orihime blushed more but
couldn’t hold back the smile breaking on her face.

“You must be ill.” She giggled, her hand reaching up and touching his forehead.

“How so? I feel fine.”

“You’re making jokes! The Ulquiorra I know doesn’t do that,” she teased, giggling again.

Ulquiorra looked at her as her hand moved down and cupped his cheek. “Ever since
coming here, I found teasing you has become enjoyable.” Orihime laughed.

“Is that so?

“Hmmm..” he stared.

“I would like to get married someday,” she started softly, “and have a few kids…there
are a lot of things I want to do in my life, but I think building a family…one I never had…” she stopped and bit her lip. It was something she never admitted before.

Ulquiorra looked at her. Orihime noticed that the teasing light that was once in his eyes were gone, his face solemn and sad. So sad that it made her heart ache. She was so stupid for mentioning that.

“I’m sure you will have it. It’s something you deserve.”

She looked at him and swallowed, her voice cracking softly, “How long will this last,
Ulquiorra?” She wanted to scream and pull her hair. She wanted to hit him and cry as she stared at him, her eyes filling with tears. Any happiness or excitement from the day was now melted away. He looked at her and sighed, leaning away though his hand picked up a strand of her hair, holding it.

“You were the only who had told me not to worry about time. What I have now with you,
I will enjoy. I will enjoy being by your side, protecting you. That is all I want and am content with,” he stated. Orihime smiled sadly, though she knew whatever happened deep down, that dream she had trying on the dress she will hold.

“Time doesn’t divide us,” she smiled, pulling his face down to kiss him, ignoring how
painful and full of sadness and longing the kiss was. No matter what happened,
it was with him she only wanted to kiss like this. They pulled away then. His arms came over her, holding her tightly against his body as he ignored the memory, just days ago of his meeting with Grimmjow.

“Whatever that chick gave you won’t last. They’re going to find and kill you, Cifer.” He laughed then. “A Hollow is a Hollow. No matter how long you play house, nothing will fix that.”

His arms gripped her; Orihime holding onto him just as hard, her fingernails digging
into his skin. He held on tightly, his face on her shoulder. Orihime shuddered softly,
feeling a wetness right there.

Time did not divide them, and Orihime truly believed this.

But, it was there ticking away as Ulquiorra pulled back and kissed her, their mouths pressing hungrily against each other.

Orihime wondered just what will happen when that time came. The time where she would sit alone in this room.

And sadly, no Girls day would be able to make up for it as it did for Michuru.
