They all needed a vacation, Excellen had decided. A few clicks at the computer, and soon enough, she had e-mailed everyone at base a message with the heading "ONSEN TRIP!!" Everyone was invited, of course, even Boota. She giggled while her brain conjured up images of -- of men. (Hey, a girl was allowed to have an imagination!) It was brilliant

Women's Area

The women's area encompasses their changing area and their side of the hot springs. Rocks line the pool around the steaming hot water. It is surrounded by a bamboo wall, which also separates it from the men's baths.

Mao was looking forwards to this. Between the run in with the lambda driver, a week of cellular regeneration (which always made her itch like something awful!), and the morning workouts that she went through alongside everyone else she made do it, she was incredibly stiff and sore.

Well, Rika had heard that people were heading over to the hot springs and she decided that this was a good opportunity to go without having to deal with mom or her classmates from private school.

It had been a while since the last time she'd been to one at all really, so she was looking forward to it. Hopefully nothing too crazy would happen, but she wouldn't put it past the other EDF pilots.

Kusuha knew she probably shouldn't be here, between the new school year starting and the frankly distressing amount of work piling up on base, but she could never resist something that amounted to hours of steamy bath, especially with all that stress.

She's there trying to relax, although the sheer number of people here are clearly making her self-conscious.

When she spotted a girl who seemed a bit unsure, Excellen waded over to where she sat. Kusuha something, she thought her name was, though she wasn't entirely sure. She almost slipped once or twice as she slogged through the water, but her resolve held. She was an EDF pilot -- no amount of water would best her!

She grinned cheerfully at the girl as she approached. "How are you?" she called out, raising her voice to be heard over the others. "First time?"

"Ah! No, just never been with so many other people that I, you know, see every day," she explains, slightly nervous at Excellen's...Excellen-ness.

"Scoot," Excellen said, sinking down next to the girl. "Wanna hear a secret?" she asked conspiratorially, a smile dancing around her lips.

Rei had had little interest in the onsen, but when her roommate insisted, she didn't try very hard to resist. Lieutenant Browning did, after all, outrank her significantly. She had never been to one before, but she was reasonably certain that it would not be difficult.

"Hey!" Excellen called out, spotting her roommate in the distance. Jogging over, she waved frantically at Rei, who hadn't seemed as hyped up for the onsen as Excellen herself had. "How are you, old pal, old buddy?" she asked enthusiastically, slinging an arm around the other woman's shoulders. "Holding up all right?"

Rei was slightly bothered by Lieutenant Browning's arm, but not to the point that she intended to do anything about it. "I am well, Lieutenant," she said.

Asuka arrives, undressed to kill, and decides to go talk to the other Eva pilot for a while. Just her being here would make a more interesting conversational subject than usual.

"Yo, Wondergirl! I see someone must have ordered you to have fun."

"The lieutenant requested my presence."

"Heh. Called it."

Asuka settles down in the water and closes her eyes. "Seriously, you should take the chance to relax and feel good. Maybe sweat some of that LCL crap out of your pores. I don't know about you, but it's killing my complexion."

Relax. She could do that. Though she didn't consider herself to be particularly in need of it. On the other hand, she had been...troubled by recent developments. The subtle shifts in her own personality, Quatre's death...and besides, she was here.

She stepped into the pool. She was almost surprised by its temperature -- it was hotter than anything she was used to. Reclining, she tried to relax her muscles as much as she could.
