Completed Items in December 2011
1. Sensodyne Repair & Protect Toothpaste
My favourite toothpaste. It doesn't taste very strong to me, nor does it taste very chemical. The taste is actually quite refreshing to me, like a "clean feeling", without feeling like I just ate toothpaste. In terms of its effectiveness in "repair and protect", I can't really tell. Will repurchase!
2. Purenavi in Facial Cleansing Gel, Facial Cleaning Serum and Makeup Cleansing Oil
Got this from
theSampleStore - I have to say that this is a very generous sample! There were 9 individual packets in the sample; 3 packets of 3 different items. I didn't actually finish this - I only used the cleansing oil and gave the rest away. But I really do like the cleansing oil - it managed to wash off all of my makeup with 1 wash. I probably won't repurchase though, because I still don't like the idea of using cleansing oil - it makes me feel like there is still something on my skin which I think is more of a psychological issue rather than the effectiveness of the product.
3. Revlon ColorStay Soft & Smooth Lipcolor in 200 Natural Cashmere
I love buying lipsticks because of their lovely red hues, but never wear them enough. This is probably the second lipstick that I have completed in my lifetime, and I have had it for sometime already. I am not in love with the texture or stay (it's quite thick and creamy, and lasts maybe 1-2 hours on me but I eat all the time so that reduces the staying time) but the colour is very natural - blend of brown, pink and peach - yet makes me look a little more polished and mature for work. It sounds weird but I try to appear older than I am at work and I think this does the 'job' well. I think this is discontinued already?
4. Covermark Moisture Veil LX - MO20 and MN30
Got this from
theSampleStore. I'm very annoyed by the pathetic sample size. I think it's better not to have any samples, than to give out pathetic samples like this. It was just a cardboard piece of paper with 2 very small rounds of powder on top; I barely had enough to cover my face once. I think companies should understand first impressions are very important and my first impression of them is not great. Will not buy it.
5. i.d. bareMinerals Mineral Foundation SPF15 - fairly light
I was given this sample size of foundation when I bought the concealer. I didn't think that I would like mineral foundation because it just feels a bit messy plus I didn't think it would give enough coverage since I am used to liquid foundation. However, I found that I quite like this - it had enough coverage, stay put all day, and my skin look really good with this! Plus I am happy that the company gave a generous sample size - this was enough to let me test for a few days. Would consider purchasing it when I am through with my other compact foundations for days that I am too lazy to put on liquid foundation.
6. Cutex Quick & Gentle Lemon/Citron Polish Remover 100ml
I seem to have gone through quite a few bottles of polish remover lately! I'm currently on a nailpolish kick plus I'm very clumsy so I have been changing nail colours every 2-3 days. Also, I'm not very good at waiting for it to dry properly, so I tend to smudge it and have to redo at least 1 finger. I think the removal time is about the same as other polish remover, so I can't really say much about the claims of "Quick & Gentle".
7. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle
I didn't actually complete this - I dropped it one day while rearranging my vanity table and it broke. It was about 90% full when it happened, so my heart almost stopped as this was my first proper perfume and it was so expensive. But to be honest, it gave me a headache because it smells very strong and almost choking - I only bought it because I wanted to try using perfumes and the advertisement made it look nice. I am secretly glad that I broke it so that I can buy something new. :P
Side Note:
Happy New Year!
I am quite happy to end the year knowing that I've completed quite a number of products the last few months of the year - which I don't think I would have if I had not started this blog. I think it pushes me to complete items, and I've recently started to focus on my skincare more because writing the monthly completed items list makes me realise how slowly I have been using up my skincare products. If I don't use them up, it must mean that I am not using them enough right? So lets hope that in the new year, I will continue using up my makeup items conscientiously and take better care of my skin! :)
Of course, I will also continue to blog. Ultimately, it doesn't matter to me if anyone is reading this at all. I think it has helped me a lot - with recognising how many things I am buying, and what I am not using. It also works as a notebook to remember what I do like, and what I don't, so that I can revisit them as a reference. Plus, it makes me happy to write about makeup. :)
Let's hope that there will be more and better products to write about in 2012! :)
