I'm back from Hawai'i. Got back this morning. Red-eye flight. Wahoo. Sat next to this rude asian dude who drank beer and wine the whole time. Now all my stuff smells like beer. YUCK.
So, I haven't really be in town for about 2.5 weeks now. but now I'm back.
I'm rather lazy right now, because I am emotionally drained from spending a week with my psycho grandmother aka the Demon of Hell with Horrible Powers of Emotional Abuse, in Hawai'i. And feeling horrible for my Papa who has had to deal with her for the past 60 years. But this was a record for me. I didn't scream or lose control once. But I came darn close. Holy crap. But I'll go into that later.
The actual Hawai'i part was good. Haven't been there in awhile (because of above-mentioned grandmother). I didn't realize how much I missed it until we got there. It's so.. beautiful. The landscape and just the atmosphere is just ... 7328478215934702869x better than here in Georgia. The Aloha spirit is wonderful. And I love being around the diverse cultures and ethnicities. I was constantly around people who spoke another language (usually Japanese, Chinese, or.. amazingly, even Spanish, plus a ton of other languages).
The weather, even though it was July, was wonderful. And I love how everywhere I go, I feel like I'm driving/walking through a nature center. Just driving down the street, sometimes you're practically 5 feet from the water's edge. Literally. Flowers and Banyon trees everywhere. Only bad part, there are serial arsonists setting brush fires across Oahu, and they had mostly stayed in one part of the island, but the day I left, we were driving back from Waimanalo heading towards Hawai'ikai after stopping by the Blowhole, when we passed a fire that had just started. It was literally about 5 feet from our car doors. You could feel the heat. No one knew about it yet, but luckily in about 4 minutes we saw a Chopper fly overhead to investigate the smoke. But, why do people have to do this to such a beautiful place? Idiots!
I got to eat some of the best food that I've missed for quite some time. Malasadas(!!!), shave ice (the REAL kind, not the crappy americanized version), McCulley Chop Suey, Guava nectar, etc.
And Saturday we hit the Swap Meet, and I spent over $100 on stuff I think. Got lots of jewelry. I love the swap meet! Me and my mom broke our record; we were there for over 6 hours!!! and we still didn't get through the whole thing. At the end, I nearly passed out because I hadn't eaten or drunk anything yet that day.
And, oh yeah! One of the main reasons I went to Hawai'i this summer, I went to BYU-Hawai'i in Laie!!! I took a tour of the campus to help me decide if I want to go there. If I do go there, I can work at the PCC (Polynesian Cultural Centre)--I'd blend in, eh? I think I can get in to BYUH, and I'd like to go, but it doesn't offer all the classes I want, so I may be transferring to BYU-Provo and/or BYU-Idaho during my college years. I'm going to BYU-P & BYU-I in a couple weeks to check out those campuses and see just what I'm going to be doing. My tour guide was really nice. She looked like she was in her mid-twenties, but no, she was 40!!! But I guess Maorians are like many Asians, they age quite well!
Church on Sunday was fun. Talked to a bunch of old Japanese/Chinese/Korean women. They are sooo funny! And as I was leaving my Grandmother said this guy in their ward was checking me out. I think he was from Tonga; he had the long skirt type thing on and the woven thing around his waist. He was heading to Laie to perform.
Everyone in Hawai'i is so nice. I wouldn't mind living there, except for the cost and the fact that I am soo pale, lol.
Oh! and while I was there, we had 3 earthquakes!! But where we are we only felt 2 of them. Luckily we live in Manoa Valley so if there is a tsunami, we should be safe!
I finished one of my summer reading books while there, The Hundred Secret Senses. If any of you have read it/are reading it, the sister Kwan, that's how about 85% of the people in Hawai'i talk. And when I'm there I start talking like that too. It's funny. I'm a crazy white chick speakin Pidgin.

Well, I must be off, I have SURGERY tomorrow/today. YUCK!! I'm not allowed to eat or drink after midnight, which is now, or else they can't go through with it. Being as I've already tried having this surgery once before and it didn't work, I'm going to go through with it now and getit over with. Only problem, I'm going to be out of it and feelin crappy for a few days, and I can't make mutual ..tonight, again. bleh!!! Go to hawai'i, come back and have surgery. what a life...
I'm going to work on my other summer reading book "The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat and Other Clinical Tales".
I am SOOO angry that I haven't been able to buy Harry Potter 6 yet!!! This is the first time I'm not able to get and finish the book before basically everyone else I know! Everyone has read it but me and I'm going NUTS!! Maybe I can convince my mom to buy it tomorrow so I can have something to read while I'm incapacitated for the next couple days! I don't want to read about crazy people when I can read about HP!!! *sigh* So yeah
as I said before, I'm going. Really, I am!
be back... eventually. once the wear off! hah
<3 muahz! and leave comments!
