Enchanted.

I watched Enchanted with my friends yesterday.

I really liked it! It was funny, and Giselle was adorable and so naive. I loved how she made her own dresses and saw everything from her happy world *laughs*

Howeverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

I hated she had to fall in love with that man from our world, I wanted her to end up with the prince (even though it's predictable from the very beginning that it wouldn't go that way).

I know it's criticism on the classical fairy tales in which prince and princess meet for the first time, fall in love out of the blue and live happily ever after, I know such stories make very little sense and are absolutely absurd, but...

We moved from a time in which such stories were taken from granted and accepted as the only possible option to a time in which such stories are banned because people run away from them like some illness.

From time to time, I want to see stories like that. To me, Giselle and her naivety fitted the prince (who was also naive and kind of cute) much more than it fitted the everyday man who goes to work and looks after his little daughter while looking for a woman. Giselle was too "magical", and this guy was too "common"... I never liked that mixture.

In Giselle's world, falling in love easily and living happily ever after is possible, in fact, it happens all the time. Giselle believes all those things because they are true where she comes from! And everyone's happy. I don't like that because such a situation is ridiculous in our world, the scriptwriter had to make Giselle change to understand love the way our world does, I feel like I'm being lectured "fairy tales don't exist, they don't work, and you have to stop enjoying prince and princess stories".

I want variety... I want prince and princess stories, I want princesses in distress, I want everything that nowadays is labelled as incorrect. and then I also want well-thought relationships, girls who can stand on their own (like Yuuko), boys who can cry (like Fay)... Why do people insist on banning stuff to change the world? We can have many kinds of awesome stories with strong and weak characters be it boys or girls!

I don't really know if this post will make sense to anyone, maybe it only does to me ;;;

Anyway! Even if the love story between Giselle and the guy from our world bugged me, I still enjoyed the movie a lot, so I'm glad I watched it... And this comes from a girl who does not like Disney the least bit (I only like some of their old animated movies).
