I seemed to have developed quite a severe caase of paranoia after hearing about the three different people who got run over, or squashed flat by buses in Bristol. One whom met their gruesome fate right in the heart of the shopping district and about 50 metres from me at the time. I don't know if I'm more deathobssesed than the next person, but I can't help but think of it evertime a bus flies past or I'm crossing all those roads outside Marketgate. I'm really surprised none of us have gotten knocked down out there yet.
Course enjoyment levels are increasing, in part due to this photography project we've got going on. This graphic design degree really couldn't be any more different than my HND. HND was so technical, almost a science in design (rules, measurements, production methods etc) whereas the degree at UWE is all about the thought process. Nice to change I guess and I personally think last year's HND was far more demanding. Our tutor at the time stressed out so much she had a mental breakdown and is still in hospital (poor Deirdre). Can't help but feel a tiny bit responsible...
Very excited...going to see Erik Spiekermann next week...he's the guy that designed the Nokia typeface among many others...Volkswagon, FF Meta etc. Really can't wait. Being in a room full of people who's sole desire is to hear type talk. I've also got an interview lined up, sadly not with Spiekermann, but with a reknowned lead graphic designer and art editor in Bath. It's for our group project on the editorial design industry. Work experience pressure is starting to bulid. Starts next Feb and is for 8 or 12 weeks. I'd love to get into another newspaper or magazine maybe. The Guardian. I ended up giving a 10minute presentation on the redesign of the Guardian newspaper by accident last week.
