Burn After Reading
While pointing out the fact that our government is full of fuck-wads, I was rather disappointed in the movie as a whole. It generalized people in a pretty sad way, in my opinion. For one, it made it out to be that everyone cheats on everyone, married or otherwise. Which made me sad.
George Clooney's character is sex addict married man cheating on his wife with multiple women, and cheats on THOSE women with other women when he's dissatisfied with them.
Also, the single characters resulted to online dating and being subjected to only other losers, because only losers and gross people who live at home with their parents are single, right? Leading female single character is terribly self loathing, but only over her appearance. Which is the backbone of the movie, the only reason anything is going on in the movie is because she wants plastic surgery. And her body is already pretty fine in the first place.
The only two characters I liked, that seemed like real people, ended up getting offed in horrible deaths. Which just ruined the whole movie for me, made me pretty sad. And how the government dealt with these deaths made me even more upset, because while I'm sure in reality they're not quite so ignorant, I'm sure shit like that happens and they just brush it under the rug. I appreciated the performances of the actors, they all did really good jobs, I just... I just really didn't like this movie.
"Hi, let's shine a light on all the bad things that happen and make it look like it's just the way things are! Everyone will fail in marriage, everyone lies, cheats, steals, and the government (there to protect) is just as shit faced as the rest of us! Everyone is deceitful and terrible! Let's make it into a MOVIE with a star studded cast! The audience will think it's a silly comedy and not know the wiser that we're making fun of them!"
