Loving this! There's not enough Darla fic out there for me, so I'm happy about this one. Twice happy because you're the person who wrote it. I used to lurk your journal to read your stories (esp. liked the rps *blush*) but haven't seen you write anything in awhile.

Great character voice. It felt very much like Darla. Totally frustrated with her situation, but coming to love the child despite herself and trying not to show it. Wouldn't fit with the tough image she has of herself.

"They - they can't - some will want to protect you," she said. She looked down again, making that eye contact that wasn't really eye contact. "They'll have the best of intentions and some particularly stupid ideas on how to make them happen. But that's not going to matter. In the end there's only you. Forget that, and you die."

Sad how right she is.

I've been having some health probs that have gotten in the way of writing. I'm rather pleased I was able to do this. More pleased that folks like it. So yay! =)
