My Baby Has Arrived

Aug 07, 2011 21:53

Dear readers, writers, and fellow Delena friends,

I apologise for any spelling errors, but this is a race to write this before my boys wake up.

After a loooooooooong wait, I gave birth to a baby boy at 12:57am on the 4th of August 2011. I was due on the 26th of July, however, this baby was determined to bake for a little longer :-). With an induction looming on August 5th, and no sign of the baby after weeks of practice contractions, I was struggling to stay sane and diving into a bit of a funk. People wanted to know if I’d had my baby, and I was getting tired of saying - umm, no. Unfortunately I was spoiled by my first baby’s punctuality (he arrived on his due date).

I finished the epilogue of Sweet and Sexy Mistakes, but it was so terrible that I couldn’t bring myself to post it, and this made me feel even worse. I decided I couldn’t keep going on the way I was, so I bought a couple of Mills and Boon and the first season of Cougar Town and tried to forget anything else existed. Finally, after the biggest cleaning frenzy my house has seen in a long time, and getting as much sleep as possible, and trying to churn through my books and new series, the baby decided to come on his own.

I was treated to a short labour this time - nine hours in total, but it hurt like…I won’t swear here. I swore in the delivery room, though. The baby weighed 9 pounds 12 ounces, and was 54cm long.I will spare certain people the gory details ;-)

And baby number #1 has just woken up…

(Continues a short while later)

Normal delivery. No pain relief, though my husband did ask me if I wanted some.

“You’re not supposed to ask me that,” I said to him as I crushed his hand.

And baby #2 has just woken up.

(Continues hours later)

After not sleeping a wink due to an incredibly busy night on the maternity ward (ten babies delivered in one night - a lot for our hospital), I asked to be discharged from hospital and went home twelve hours after delivering. The walk to the car park was…ouch.

I am now attempting to get used to the new frantic pace of my life. My husband and I have been running around like headless chooks, with our hands full almost every moment of every day. I think this is what they call an existence. On the fourth day after delivery I am already reminding myself that this will not last forever, and trying to enjoy it, because before I know it I’ll be sending my boys off to college and missing these days, I’m sure.

This is the most spare time I’ve had since the baby arrived, and I have been working on writing this now, on and off for *looks at computer clock* six hours. As soon as I have time, I’m diving right back into all those wonderful stories I’ve been missing. Can’t wait!  And as soon as  have more than a minute here and there, the writing will continue.

Missing reading all your stories, and reviews,

Michelle.
