Room 409: Morning

Feb 02, 2006 13:55

Blair opened his eyes after meditating and glared at Hank. The little seed inside the dirt mocked him with its steady not-growing.

Or not. Blair knew that Hank wasn't mocking him, or not growing on purpose, but he felt out of sorts this morning. He had heard on the annoucements about Dr. House leaving and then Aziraphale had called to say he was leaving too. Blair didn't know how to deal with that. He knew goodbyes. He said goodbye all the time, to his friends, to his neighbors, to the most recent 'uncle' they had lived with. Blair was comfortably familiar with saying goodbye.

But this? This was different. Other people were leaving. Other people were saying the goodbyes and heading out of town. Other people were leaving and Blair was left with holes. Places in his life that people had filled.

Blair picked up his backpack and looked at the picture of Naomi that sat next to Hank. She smiled at him from the picture, her hand posed in a wave. It didn't look so happy to him now, now that he knew what it felt like being on the other side of goodbye.
