Blair might have been allowed to sleep if it hadn't been for River, who was anxious to make sure he had survived the ordeal of kidnapping. She knocked on the door. "Blair?"
River tried opening the door. It was locked. But she could definitely sense Blair in there, although it felt as if he was asleep.
A surprise breakfast in bed might cheer him up, and hopefully make him less angry. If he still was angry at her. It was hard to tell from the dreams.
She returned some fifteen minutes later with a cup of coffee, a bowl of cereals and an orange. Oh, and the lock pick she had stolen from Jayne before leaving for Fandom. It was a handy tool indeed, and she quickly managed to unlock the door and sneak inside with the tray.
"...not the clowns." Blair muttered before trying to burrow deeper into his blankets. Then the scents of breakfast invaded the room and he peeked open an eye.
"Coffee?" He paused and searched his brain for another word. "River?"
Blair smiled and moved to sit up, careful not to move too fast in case the headache from this weekend started again. "Thanks, River. That's really sweet of you."
"You did?" Blair smiled and he reached over to place his hand over hers on the tray. "I'm really okay. The girl who took me knocked me out, but the rest of the time was just sitting around and being cold and tired."
"Oh, I also had to take one of them to the spirit plane."
"One of the trolls?" River asked. "The ones I talked to didn't seem spiritually inclined. Although I managed to talk one of them out of fighting." She added the last comment in hope that Blair would approve.
It is also worth noting that River never got to meet the female trolls, and she didn't mind read Blair too closely, not wanting to annoy him.
"They were trolls? Evie said Jack didn't think they were human..." Blair shrugged and took a sip of coffee. "That's awesome, River. Did you fight many others? Are you okay?"
"I fought a few." River avoided using the word 'killed'. "I'm ok." She frowned at his first comment, and looked a little closer into his mind. "The females looked like humans? The males certainly didn't."
"Yeah, humans who escaped from the middle ages." Blair said, trying to picture the females and their way of dressing. "I'm glad you're okay. I was worried about you."
"And I was worried about you," River replied. She fell silent for a moment, considering whether bringing up their previous conversation was a good idea or not."
"On Friday, before the whole thing started, I talked to some people." Blair wasn't sure how much River was reading him, but he let the images of Phale, Wilson and Jack run through his brain. "I was wondering if you would go to some kind of couples counseling with me? See if we can work things out?"
At first the word 'counselling' evoked bad memories. Tyler had told her that he thought she needed that kind of help because she was crazy. Or something along those lines. But she sensed that Blair meant something very different, and that he really did want to try and work things out. She nodded slowly. "We could try."
Blair watched her carefully and reached out a hand. "I like you a lot, River and I don't want to break things off with you. The counseling would be for both of us, help us be a better boyfriend and girlfriend."
"It's not scary." Blair couldn't read her mind, but he knew that some people freak out about that sort of thing. "I've been in some form of therapy since I was in diapers. Naomi believed in exploring feelings."
