Room 409: Wednesday Morning

May 03, 2006 11:26

Blair walked slowly into his room, trying very hard not to bounce. After his conversation with Nadia in the computer lab, he was determined to prove that he could pretend to be supporting The Man for a whole day. But first he had to prepare ( Read more... )

Janet was trying to save her last halfway clean pair of jeans by wearing her jogging clothes--still clean, because she hadn't been jogging since last week--around today. And she was wandering on the fourth floor to find Isabel and see how she thought she'd done on the Western Civ test. Though, now that she thought about it, she wasn't sure if Isabel was on four or five.

But all thoughts of Western Civ or clean laundry were put out of her mind when she saw Blair. In a suit? With his hair pulled back?

"Ms. Fraiser." Blair nodded as he walked past her. "Going out for a jog? You know the government recommends at least 30 minutes of exercise each day."

Blair?

Recommending the government's advice on exercise?

No. There was something so wrong in that concept.

"Are you possessed by anything?" asked Janet. "Did you get hit by a sudden personality-changing ray? Did you eat one too many Twinkies and turn into a business major?" She frowned. "Also, the government does recommend at least thirty minutes of daily exercise, but there are very good reasons for that. Also, I'm nearly out of clean clothes, and if I want to have something clean to wear, I can't go jogging."

"No. No. No. Although a business major is a very good idea. I should really look into that as a career option." Blair said. "Good for you, Ms. Fraiser. I think it's wonderful how versed you are on the government's instructions for our everyday lives. You are a role model for the rest of the students here."

Janet's face was going to be stuck in a permanent state of OMGWTF for the rest of the day, she was sure of it.

"The government and I don't always see eye to eye, Blair, which you should well know." Especially when 'the government' involved any group that worked with Senator Kinsey on a regular basis. Janet pulled out her penlight and tried to hold it in a non-threatening manner. This is Janet. Penlights are threatening in her hands! "Have you hit your head recently? Come here and let me check your pupils."

"Not see eye to eye?" Blair frowned. "That's probably because you don't understand that they have your best interests in mind."

He shyed away from the penlight. "No hits on the head and if I need to see a doctor, I'll find a properly licensed physican. No hokey herbal remedies for me."

"Most of the people in the government mean well," said Janet. "Not all of them. Now, Blair, let me give you a statement and you tell me if you agree and disagree, or why not." She pulled a line from one of Daniel's many impassioned speeches. 'The government does not have the right to interfere with the cultures of indigenous peoples.'"

She frowned at him and flicked on the penlight. "I'm a clinic aide, and certainly more than qualified to give you a basic exam for a concussion. And some herbal remedies have their place when used in conjuction with standard medical practices."

Maybe he needed to go to the clinic. Maybe he was possessed? Janet could think of a few planets that were populated primarily by very Republican-like aliens.

"I disagree. The government has absolute authority and they can decide if they want to interfere with cultures if it benefits them. What if those indigenous people have something that we need? Or if they run around worshipping a sicko god." Blair blanched. "What if they are all naked? The government really need to get in there and give them clothes and teach them how to act and live and worship. It's for their own good."

"Aide is the appropriate word there. We aren't exactly in the clinic and I think you're supposed to be supervised. In fact, should I be letting those in authority over you know about you practicing medicine on your free time? Is that sort of thing allowed?"

Janet narrowed her eyes. "So you believe in the right of the culture with the strength to impose their mores and belief systems to, in fact, do such a thing?" She had a million of these stored up from Daniel. "How do you feel about Dr. Jackson's class? What do you think of a school that has a teacher for magical theory?"

Possessed by a possessing thing. No doubt about it. Or possibly someone tied Blair up and made him watch infomercials for 24 hours straight. His mind may have attempted to protect itself by adopting the guise of a capitalist Republican. It was no wonkier than any of the other psychology featured on Stargate."You know, I think that's a very good idea," said Janet. "In fact, I think the head of the clinic is on duty today, and I think it's your solemn duty to tell him how much of a pain in the ass I've been and how he needs to supervise my work constantly from now on ( ... )

"Not just any culture with strength. The American culture. We're the best country and there's just no debating that." Blair leaned forward. "Dr. Jackson is a fine teacher, if a little preoccupied by other cultures and people. It would be better if he focused more on the United States."

Blair smirked. "I'd love to go with you to the clinic, but I really need to be getting to lunch. If you'd like, I'd be happy to write a letter to the head of the clinic. Or maybe even the attorney general. I'm sure the government would be interested in hearing that the clinic allows students such as yourself to pratice medicine unsupervised."

"Wait a minute," said Janet, looking at Blair more closely. "Is that your thrift store suit? And write whatever the heck letter you want to Tommy. Tommy Gavin. He lives in the apartment above the clinic."

First thing she was doing after Blair left? Finding someone who made a processed-foods gift basket and sending it to his room.

"It's..." Blair smoothed out his suit. "Yes, it is." Blair's secret mission to love The Man was coming undone. Time for plan B.

"Look at that shiny thing over there!" Blair pointed off to the side and made a break for the stairwell.

Janet wasn't fooled by the 'shiny thing' distraction. But she was amused enough by it that she leaned against the wall and couldn't stop laughing. Which would probably give Blair time to run away.

OOC: So hilarious. *dies giggling*

Blair wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth, so he took the chance and 'snuck' downstairs.

"Whew. That was close!"
