What a great day! Once Procrastination was transformed, we managed to get out and get everything done for the fall Homeschool Adventure. Rickster and I are both really excited. He's signed up for swimming, karate, and an intro to team sports for kids with attentional difficulties. We're both signed up for a weekly astronomy workshop where we get to look at the night sky through Big telescopes at Amherst College up the road. We're also spending a day handling falcons at the local falconry! At home, at his insistence we are studying (aside from math, English and Spanish), Trees; Rocks, Minerals Gems and Crystals (geology and healing properties); Space/The Universe (science and mythology); Reiki and Reflexology; African American History; Classical Music and Music Theory; Greek Mythology. Whew! We'll also be visiting my brothers studios to see how bronze is sculpted and how leather is crafted.
I've joined the local potter's cooperative ( I have ALWAYS wanted to sit at the potters wheel. Yum) and am committed to getting to either the weekly Kabbalah Meditation or Laying on of Hands at the non-denominational charismatic church uptown.
Sounds like we're going to be pretty busy with everything that's already on the household schedule. It's good for us. And I'm as excited as my son is about so many of our projects! I get to learn about things I've never taken the time for and which my public school education never offered.
I am excited again and thrilled to see my son so excited about learning. Between the fantastic local library and resources, the internet, friends and family . . . this child who was nearly routed onto the psychiatric and/or correctional facility track is gonna wow the world one day.
Meanhile, my daughter insisted on public instead of homeschool. We're both releived. At 13 she needs the socialization. Except today, when we came in with her brother's plan, she informed me that for her upcoming Birthday she wants books on Greek Mythology and Shakespeare and is happy to study Classical Music alongside her brother so long as she can study the Blues and Early Rock n' Roll. LOL! She's determined to study photography which looks doable through the local community college. And next summer she is going to a 2 week intensive glassblowing camp if the scholarships come through. Whoohooo for Art!
Thank you Universe for this surprising and beauty-full life.
