Although I myself am not a huge fan of socks ( I think I perhaps only own one or two pairs of socks! And unfortunately neither of them are stripy!), I AM a fan of lovely people, and of supporting local niceness. Helen over at stripysockstudio.com is having a competition, and all you need to do is take pictures of you in your stripey socks! Easy Peasy! And you could win some more neat stripey socks! You don't need to be in New Zealand either! So go go go!
One of our friends and his new girlfriend were meant to come to dinner tonight. I spent all afternoon baking chocolate cupcakes. It was a very, very big job for something that seems like a very small deal. First it took me ages to find a recipe online. Who would have thought? And then I had lumps of chocolate in the icing so it was clogging the cone bit of my icing bag. I almost cried about three times becauser they just weren't working. But in the end.. voila! Chocolate cupcakes, with choc buttons in the middle, topped with chocolate icing and silver balls! yay!
I did the grocery shopping this morning, and went to the fish market on the way home, and bought beautiful fresh Warehou fillets for dinner.
I dillegently made homemade chips, roasted them with mixed herbs and rock salt, coated the fillets in egg, then breadcrumbs, then repeated. And slow fried it until it was cooked all the way through. I filled little dipping sauce bowls with half tomato sauce and half garlic aoili. I cut and de-seeded lemons, and placed them on a plate.
Abraham tidied the lounge/dining area, and vaccumed.
I laid the table, a few minutes before our guests were due to arrive, a new 60's tablecloth, plastic doily type placemats, mathing plates.. everything looking beautiful.
Then I got a text. They'd 'double booked' and couldn't come anymore.
I'm so sick of people living on 'Nelson time' and never turning up on time, or not turning up at all. Am I the only person who can't stand people being late?
So if anyone is interested in coming round, I have loads of cupcakes going spare!
