Yesterday morning I 'flash-fictioned' a vignette and posted it on FFN, because I had read several stories grasping at the idea that if Kantarou became a tengu, it would 'fix' Haruka's reluctance to become attached to him due to Kantarou's short human lifespan.
I understand there's a doujinshi out there on this idea that is supposed to be well executed, so I'm not criticizing that, but it sort of bothers me that writers are taking that route as some kind of easy fix.
Anyway, after writing and posting the fic (which I think if I actually spent some time on it and expanded it, might have become the kernel for a decent work, I'm not satisfied with the ending and it neglects the issue of a person's personality possibly changing in the transition. oh well...), I thought that the central story-question I put in the summary on FFN was a pretty interesting question that people might want to discuss or use as a writing prompt:
What are the costs of pursuing the Tengu road?
