[note: sorry for the wait. korea is keeping me busy.]
“For the first month or so after I moved I really didn’t get out much. I was a little shy and kept to myself and besides that I was going through some emotional turmoil over the whole deal with my parents. In a way it was good for me though. It gave me time to adjust without bringing in other complications. I got used to Japan fairly quickly, but I didn’t give Japan any chance to get to know me. I didn’t have any real friends here, and I didn’t want to bother any back at home. It was when I went looking for some that the real problems began.”
“You got mixed up with the wrong crowd?” Yoochun glanced over, meeting his companion’s gaze before nodding.
“Something like that.”

Gradually the soft rocking and rumbling of the car lulled Junsu to sleep, his head resting against a combination of his arm and the window. The day’s exhaustion caught up to him, and though he tried to keep his eyes open the silence pulled at his lids until they closed. Yoochun made no further attempts to talk to him or wake him, glancing over only once to take note that his kidnap-e had passed out.
When Junsu finally awoke on his own there was sunlight fluttering against his eyes, soft and gold and not quite yet risen above the horizon. The car had stopped, sitting in comfortable silence. Junsu blinked slowly, squinting, trying to remember where he was and why he was there. A turn of his head brought Yoochun into his line of site, sitting in the driver’s seat with his arms crossed over his chest and his eyes focused lazily on the land stretching ahead of them, sunshine reflecting off his face.
“Mhmm…” Junsu groaned lightly, memories of the early morning flooding back to him. He turned back to the window, finally able to process his surroundings. “Where are- is that the beach?” His eyes stretched wider, surprise setting in.
“Looks like it.” Yoochun answered without turning. The waves stretched up over the dimly lit gold sand, reaching as far as they could before losing their grip and slipping back to the ocean. It was beautiful and completely empty of people. Junsu however was too preoccupied to fully appreciate the sight.
“But where… how long were you driving for? There aren’t any beaches near-”
“Shhhh. Just relax ok? Does it really matter? I know you’re probably just as sick of the city as I am.” In his shock Junsu had temporarily forgotten how much he disliked the man sitting beside him, but his displeasure was rapidly returning.
“Of course it matters! I worked all day yesterday only so some random guy could kidnap me and drive me out to the middle of freaking nowhere and then refuse to answer any of my questions- Just because we’re both Korean doesn’t mean you have the right-”
“Shut. Up.” Yoochun leaned into Junsu’s personal space, the glare in his eyes clearly a warning. Junsu was fuming but he slowly forced his jaw shut, keeping in mind that Yoochun could easily abandon him here. The man hovered over him for a few more seconds before pulling away and opening the car door. “Come on.” He shut the door with a slam and walked out onto the sands, hands in his pockets. Junsu gritted his teeth. There was no reason why he should have to listen to this crazy… He shook his head and clenched his fist on the door handle before pushing it open and following slowly.
For the next few minutes the two men walked in silence, Junsu trailing several feet behind Yoochun, his gaze glued to the waves. Although his anger burned inside it gradually left him, replaced by the peacefulness of the quiet beach. This continued for some time, and by the time Junsu realized he caught up with his companion they were quite far from the car, completely alone with the sand and the sun gently warming their skin. They came to a stop together, standing a foot apart although the negative energy between them had temporarily vanished.
“It’s beautiful, huh?” Junsu nodded, but Yoochun didn’t wait for a response. “I like it here, away from everyone. Like my own private paradise or something. It helps me calm down, let’s me think.”
“I’m surprised there aren’t more people here.”
“Well it’s still early, but even on days when I expect company I usually only encounter one or two others.” Silence stretched between them again, and finally Junsu began to feel awkward once more. He heaved a sigh, turning to face the mysterious man beside him.
“Why did you bring me here? What is the purpose of this?” Yoochun glanced at him, but did not turn.
“Why do you always speak in Japanese, even though you know I’ll understand you if you don’t?” Junsu flinched, grimacing.
“Why does it matter? This is the language here, you should be used to it.” Yoochun licked his lips, opening his mouth as if to respond and then shutting it again. He sighed lightly.
“There was no purpose really. I just thought I’d share this with you.” With that he turned and brushed past Junsu, walking back in the direction of the car. The sun was higher now, and in no time at all the heat would become uncomfortable rather than pleasant. Junsu watched after the man for a second, for the first time wondering if he wasn’t being too harsh. When it came down to it, the guy hadn’t really done anything wrong. To be honest, he’d slept better in the car than he had in many nights home in his bed, and waking up at a beach… peaceful and quiet and gorgeous at that… you couldn’t really call that painful. These thoughts circulated in Junsu’s mind all the way back to the car.
Fog was rolling down from the land, obscuring the road and isolating the beach further. Yoochun backed the car up slowly, turning to watch over his shoulder though his gaze passed over Junsu as if he weren’t there. The drive home was as the beach, silent and somehow, lonely.
