Oh, this was a grumpy weekend. I hadn’t had a stellar week last week in general, much of which was thanks to a particularly angsty bout of PMS - and this weekend I was feeling continually grumpy, frustrated, sad (at nothing in particular), lonely (because Shasta had to work all day Saturday), unproductive and headachy. I think it rubbed off on Shasta, too, because the longer this went on the pissier she got as well. Weren’t we just the loveliest pair of grumps?
But, in our defense, it really is hard to be cheerful when it’s springtime and outside it looks like this:
On Saturday we woke up to find that the snow was *still* falling. Shasta had an all-day appointment doing massage for a jewelry/makeup party in Highlands Ranch, so she had to get up early - that woke me up and I couldn’t go back to sleep. She trudged off through the snow to get to work…
…and I shuffled around the house feeling sluggish and grumpy. Finally I decided that, as unmotivated as I felt, I might as well do something productive with the day, so I broke out the painting supplies and started painting the entryway and upper hall. Did as much as I could without having ladder-help, then had to stop because I had gotten a killer headache. In the meantime, the power went out in the house FOUR times. I tried to nap a little before Shasta came home, and then we made a pizza and watched some DVDs before going to bed early.
Shasta, my darling sweet woman, brought home a treat for me from the party she’d worked. She knew I was disappointed about the ring thing and wanted to make it up to me.
Aren’t they pretty? *^^* She brought me a bottle of Mary Kay nail polish too. I haven’t painted my nails in ages, but it’s a really nice color so I might just start. :P
Sunday was a little better, but we were both not feeling very well. We slept in late and went to Pete’s Kitchen downtown for some breakfast, then spent some time browsing a holistic store across the street. Bought some candles, then returned some movies to the store and got ice cream. That was a good start to the day, but when we got home we found that the melting snow was running into the window well in our basement, filling it with water -which was then leaking through the window and down the wall onto the gym floor. We spent a good amount of time in the backyard with our shop vac, sucking enough water out of the window well that we could then open the window to bail the rest of the water out with a bucket… and in the process, tracked a bunch of mud & dirty water through the house. So, after fixing the window well issue we had to sweep, mop and buff the floors throughout the house. By the time we were done we were both grumpy again. So we watched some movies and made some dinner and tried to remember that life is really quite good and we’re lucky even to have a window well to bail out and floors to clean. :P
Here’s a pic of the partially-finished paint in the entryway. I’m mostly posting this ‘cause I think Shasta’s Sunday-morning-hair is adorable. ♥
Still, I think we were both feeling a bit overwhelmed. The house is coming along, but slowly, and sometimes it’s really frustrating when we look around and realize how much farther we still have to go. We didn’t get any tile work done this weekend because of the weather, so no progress on the study was made at all. I will be so, SO relieved if we can just complete the 1) Flooring, 2) Paint, and 3) Baseboards. If we could just get those three things finished the house would finally feel less like a construction zone and more like our actual HOME. Plus, we could unpack the garage, set up the study, etc. *sigh* And they sound so simple… but my GOD what a lot of work (and money) goes into doing just those three simple things!
