We do that too in our daily lives, right? What's the most efficient way to survive, for a human being? Work a job, get money with which to feed and shelter ourselves and have fun in between work-times to feed and shelter our spirits. ..or is this is just my mind going "oops I have no data on this, so I'll make stuff up" again?
I personally believe in both, too. Like, why should they be mutually exclusive? Just like God and Buddha. Bible mentions no Buddha. Scriptures mention no God. Hmm. That makes me wonder, would they have been able to exist simultaneously in the same period in history in the same area?
WOAH back to your topic, sorry XD So yeah, survival of the fittest. But who or what decides on "the fittest"? To the rat, IT is the most efficient, because it observes that its way of life works for it and its species. Same for the cat, dog, mouse, octopus.. According to them, their way is the best way. FOR THEM. What I find incredibly arrogant is that scientists or biologists or whatever they call themselves just bust in and go "oh this cheetah ate that zebra, this must mean it is fitter and therefore, better.". Better at catching zebras than, say, a rat. Sure. Also, if it hadn't been for our brain suddenly going "oi, this sucks, I need more space for remembering things" it would have been us being eaten. And why did the human brain evolve? *because it wanted to*
I'm hyperactive today, so if none of this made sense, I apologize.
I know! It's like survival of the fittest, except no one cares XD What I mean is, say your example of the cheetah outrunning and eating the zebra. Then you have a rat or some other random animal in the African grasslands and savannas. None of them even give a shit about eating zebras! That doesn't make the cheetah any more fit than the zebra or the rat or any other animal. The cheetah was build to chase down and eat zebras, because the cheetah thinks that's the best way for it to live, just like the zebra is built to evade, and confuse its pursuers with its stripes, also built to hold a heavy head that eats grass and stuff. Rats are close to the ground for scavenging and hiding and small to conserve energy. None of those animals are better than another, they're just different walks of life.
Like we're all humans, and for us, creating, thinking, talking, and traveling is something we are built to do. So we have long arms with five long fingers placed in a way for maximum dexterity. We have long legs and walk upright to conserve the most energy while traveling the longest distances. We also have a large brain, large vocal chords and extremely dexterous tongue and lips for communication.
That's what we were built for, because for us, discovering and creating who we are and what our world is, is what we are here to do! In the very physical sense of our bodies!
Still, that doesn't make us the top of evolution either. But it really is easy to think that way since we ARE human and of course we think that's the best way to live! XD
