Two very special birthdays
I'm watching Castaway right now and in order to beat the loneliness that this movie inspires, I'm going to recognize two good friends today on their birthdays.
The first is dear scopo. I can't tell you how long he has been on my list or when he first arrived. I can't remember the first flirtations, the first signs of intelligent discourse he had to offer, but they were there, powerful and secure in their own right. Not a lengthy commenter, but always there with something helpful and intelligent to say. I hope today proves to be a good day for my dear friend.
The second is libidoergosum and this icon is far too innocent for this kid. He has seen life, the true depth of it, the true power of it. He's seen in wielded fiercely in someone else's hand and he's seen it snatched away as well. I had the privilege to meet him through a mutual friend at Black Rose last year and I can say that he makes my intensity look like half-hearted charm. He's got a winning smile and a penetrating glare all in the same millisecond. He will continue to face challenges, but I hope beyond hope that he continues to meet them with his usual grace and tenacity. Happy Birthday, dear!
