Summary: Josephine meets a mysterious woman while out for a walk.
Notes: This story is a crossover over of my Victorian series, The Alcasterian Chronicles and an alternate universe where Princess Charlotte of Wales is Queen of Great Britain. This is the first piece of the latter series.
They were going to Town! Josephine just couldn't believe it. Her papa hardly ever went into Town and he certainly never took any of them with him.
Josephine breathed in the fresh country air. She'd heard that London was dirty and grimy and there was no fresh air to be found there. But there were balls and operas and theaters and all sorts of wonderful things that could make up for that!
Josephine slowed down. There was someone walking towards her. She couldn't make out who it was from this distance.
“Hello there!” The figure said.
“Hello,” Josephine said slowly. Mama had taught her to be careful around strangers.
The figure made its way towards her. As they approached Josephine could make out that it was a woman. She didn't look much older than Josephine's own sixteen years, but she...was quite improperly dressed.
“Can you tell where am I?” The woman said.
“Oh yes,” Josephine said quickly. “You're in Alcastershire.”
“Alcastershire!” The woman said throwing her hands up. “I was supposed to be near Scotland by now.”
Josephine couldn't help but laugh. “Well you're a little out of the way if you're headed to Scotland.”
The woman looked at Josephine. She stared at her for a moment before turning away.
She walked a little ways off and turned around.
“Who is the monarch?” The woman asked.
“Victoria of course,” Josephine said somewhat confused.
“Ah,” the woman said shaking her head. “So his theory was correct.”
Josephine started to say something, but when she looked up again, the woman was gone and there was no sign of her.
“How strange,” Josephine mused. How very strange.
