This post is about two unrelated things. First of all, I survived the pride parade! Luckily, I'm pretty sure everybody did. I need to find something else to plan now...
Second, another job observation: Today, I went to go buy a sandwich, and there was a sign in the store that said "Phenomenal People Wanted!!!" (Yes, with 3 exclamation points) There might not be anything really wrong with that. Maybe they're trying to have a "fun" company culture. And isn't it better to be a phenomenal person than the alternative: "Help"? I don't know what it means to be phenomenal, but I can only guess that it doesn't encompass most of us. It made me think about a broader issue: Where are the people who are NOT phenomenal supposed to work? I feel like there's no room anymore in the work world to be anything less than a cheerful, passionate, phenomenal team player. But I think we all deserve the chance to find some kind of work, even if we're apathetic loners with neck tattoos.
This is a very beautiful and sad song.
