Heard This One?
One thing that didn't make it into my unemployment zine was "Things You Shouldn't Say to Unemployed People". Anyway, here's one thing that gets said, more broadly, to anyone who doesn't really have a career. Whenever you express an interest about something, people say, "Oh! Have you considered a career in that?" Sure, this comment is an incident of "someone just trying to help". Maybe. But really now...why would you NOT have considered a career that's based on your interests? If you thought about this statement, wouldn't it kind of be like, "DUH"?
