Sculpting

Recently, I went to an open house at this place called Djerassi where artists go and live, apparently to make their art in seclusion.  My mom and I walked around the hills where sculptures are randomly dispersed throughout the woods.  It occurred to me that making sculptures in the woods could be a great way to combine my interests in ( Read more... )

I got this idea from watching my cat chase balls of string. She liked knock it around the house until the string was all tangled up around the legs of chairs and tables and that sort of stuff. Then we would play a fun game where I would try to wind the ball back up.

So what I thought would be cool would be to create a space with chairs and tables, and then invite a guest artist cat to come in and play with various colors of yarn, stringing the whole place up. After that, humans would be invited to enter the space and try to wind the balls of string back up. When all the balls have returned to ball form, the cat comes back to "re-string" the room. Or a different cat.

I thought about calling the installation "string theory".

That sounds cool. I think people would want to see it. There's a book about cats that paint, isn't there?

Yup. It's called "Why Cats Paint" and then there was a sequel called "Why Paint Cats". They're both really cool.
