Vampires Do It Better- Chap 2

Jun 18, 2011 23:05

It took me most of the morning to pick out some decent clothing for school. It was my first time in a uniform-less institution so I stared at my wardrobe for a long time wondering what would be suitable first-impression ‘by the way, I’m a vampire’ clothes to wear. Then, it came to me. Vampires don’t care! They’re the undead! They can’t be bothered by things like clothes, and school, and food, and breathing, and petty human emotions! They’re above it all!

And that was the key to the vampire attitude! I simply didn’t need to care. I’ve been going about it all wrong since I was born. I closed my eyes and grabbed the first combination I got my hands on. Then I put one of the two shirts I pulled out back and put on some pants, because all though I am a vampire, I should still respect some societal rules like putting pants on. I grabbed an orange off the kitchen table, because I wasn’t about to pretend to Yoochun that I was a vampire. He was still in the bathroom doing his hair that I no longer need to do, because I don’t care!

Yunho stumbled out of his room, and tripped over the threshold again. He’s really only graceful when he’s sitting down. “’Morning.” I called out to him, throwing away the orange peels and eating a slice of the sweet fruit.

“Hey…” He walked in, and stole half of my orange. “You’ve got a car, right?” He pointed out the window to my shiny red Daewoo.

“Yeah… Need a ride?” I had decided overnight to treat Yunho like a regular non-homosexual guy. Besides, I’ve already said that I liked him, and changing my mind requires way too much paper work. “We just need to wait for Chun.”

“Okay.” He leaned on the counter, all suave like, and smiled his blinding brace smile at me. “Are you really okay with this?” He gestured to himself.  I looked him up and down and raised my eyebrows quizzically. Did he want me to comment on his outfit? “With me being gay and all.” Oh.

I nodded, and looked at my half-orange. “Yeah, I don’t care.” I tossed my hair to the side, displaying my vampiric attitude. Vampires don’t care about inconsequential things like sexual orientation.

“You’re really cool. I wish there were people like you at my old school.” He sighed.

Yunho looked so pitiful and sad that I almost told him I was a pathetic loser who was going to pretend to be a vampire to get girls just so he’d feel better, but Yoochun burst out of the bathroom with his carefully constructed bed-head and interrupted me. All three of us left for school, then, cramming ourselves into the tiny car.

The campus was huge, and teeming with people. Back in my hometown everybody had black hair. Here, it was like a multitude of colours, like a magical rainbow. I parked somewhere between two massive and expensive cars, and pulled on a sweater and some sunglasses. I did not want a repeat of yesterday. All three of us got out of the car, and I expected some sort of movie-esque welcome where everybody slowly turns around and stares at us as we walk down the school path in slow motion. They all ignored us.

“My locker’s in A.” Yoochun told me, pulling out the small school map and schedule we had been provided with.

“I’m in D.” I told him, spotting the giant D on one of the buildings. I noticed Yoochun was already walking away to some pretty girl sitting on the grass and hadn’t heard me at all. Our friendship is very one-sided.

“Me too.” Yunho tripped over the sidewalk, but regained his balance before he fell. How does one get that clumsy? “Do you want to go together?” he smiled brightly at me. The sun bounced off his braces and slapped me in the face. My cheeks were starting to get itchy.

“Ew, no! You might get your gay on me.” I laughed as I pulled my school bag over my shoulder. His crestfallen look had me backtracking really quickly. “’I’m kidding. Let’s go.”

“That wasn’t funny.” Yunho pouted as he followed me. He tripped over perfectly flat asphalt. I stretched my arm out quickly so he could grab on to it. He muttered a begrudging ‘thanks’.

“I’m hilarious and you know it.” Not caring that I sounded like a conceited jerk. I’m a friggin’ vampire.

“Shut up.” He grumbled, but I could see his braces trying to poke through one of his typical blinding grins. I think we’re going to be good friends. I’d never really thought anything like that before, so I had to pause and contemplate it for a second.

“Um… By the way…” Yunho mumbled, wringing his hands together. “I’d really appreciate it if you… you know… didn’t tell anybody.”

“About what?” He gave me a look. “Oh!... No seriously, what are you talking about?”

“You know!” He widened his eyes suggestively. I blinked at him. “About me being gay!”

I laughed. “I know. I just wanted to make you say it.” I snickered, and avoided his punch. “Don’t worry. Your secret’s safe with me.” I paused, half-way down the path to the steps of the D building, and looked at him. “But you’re not allowed to fall in love with me.” I told him with a serious face.

Yunho eyes widened like saucers and I laughed at him. This is so much fun. “You ass!” He scoffed in relief, and punched me in the chest. It hurt, but I pretended it didn’t. I’ll probably have a bruise there, later. “Ugh, you probably got that from a crappy chick flick. Gave me a heart attack.”

“From EVERY crappy chick flick.” I laughed. Usually I would’ve said something like ‘I don’t watch chick flicks!’, but I don’t care anymore! Let the whole world know that I cried during 27 Dresses! BECAUSE I SUCK BLOOD AND DON’T BREATHE, BITCHES!!

I remembered to put my vampire plan into action, so I started my carefully practiced brooding. I was so busy being a vampire, that I didn’t notice this girl just sitting on the steps and almost tripped over her. “HEY! Why don’t you watch were you’re going?” She huffed unhappily. She had died bubble gum pink hair and tiny unhappy eyes.

“Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention.” I apologized, just before Yunho did an impressive face plant onto the steps. “I’m really sorry, we’re new here. And we were-”

“Are you freshmen? I’m Soo Mi.” She piped up excitedly.

I shared a confused glance with Yunho who I’d helped end his courtship with the ground. “Oh, we’re not-”

“You guys are tall for freshman. You’re probably like a foot taller than me.” Soo Mi pushed herself up so fast she dropped the book she had been holding.

I gave her my alluring vampire grin and bent over to pick up the book she had dropped. ‘Vampires Do it Better’. Hah! Here’s my chance! I gave the book back to her and pointed at the door. “I’m sorry, I’ve got to get inside. I’m not so good with the sun.” I said mysteriously. She looked up at me with a bewildered expression and followed me and Yunho in.

Soo Mi was an endless chatterbox. She kept asking me and Yunho questions about our lives. We weren’t done answering one question that she would fire another one at us. I felt like I had to be on my toes, and answer as mysteriously as possible. Yunho would send me quizzical glances every few seconds, like he thought I was being weird. Well, he’s gay. So we were both being weird. Soo Mi collected our schedules and squealed in delight when she saw that we were juniors like her and had about seven of the same classes. The only classes I didn’t have with Yunho were my advanced English class, and biology. My old school was super strict on our English learning. Soo Mi gave each of us a hug. Yeah, Seoul people are way too friendly.

She asked if we were from another city. “Yeah, we transferred in.” I informed her as we walked to our lockers, and Yunho nodded. Our lockers were right next to each other. These coincidences are starting to freak me out. Soo Mi nodded like I had just said something very interesting and wise. She left after a couple seconds to get her lip balm from her locker because her lips were ‘dryer than the Sahara desert’. Yunho was giving me this look. “What? Am I turning you on?” I giggled. I’m making man jokes. Yunho smirked at me.

“No… What was that whole ‘oh, I’m a mysterious creeper’ act you were pulling?” He laughed, stuffing his books into his locker.

“What act? I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I internally cursed Yunho’s perceptiveness. I forgot that he read books like me, and so OBVIOUSLY he would notice things and be sensitive and all that. I checked my schedule and grabbed the books I would probably need for the first four classes.

“Sure you don’t.” He scoffed. Liking him is hard when he’s being a sarcastic dick. I gave him my practiced vampire glare. “Um… are you okay? You look like you’re going to be sick.” He trivialized my awesome vampiric powers. I felt crushed.

“Whatever, man.” I grumbled unhappily. “Let’s get to class.”

“Don’t be mad.” He threw his arm over my shoulder and pulled my head down, smirking happily. “You can be as much of a mysterious creeper as you want. I’ll still be your buddy.” He gave me a very wet kiss on the cheek.

“EW! Get off me.” I shoved him away and wiped my cheek exaggeratedly. “Gay cooties!” I mouthed, and he rolled his eyes.

Soo Mi came back and giggled at our ‘skinship’ as she called it. What the hell is skinship? Is it code for gay? Stop right there Jaejoong! You don’t care, remember? You’re a vampire. You are beyond this. So instead of doing the inner freak out and outer denial I would usually have done, I just leaned against Yunho and shrugged nonchalantly. “We’re close like that.” I laughed.

Soo Mi stared at us for a while before starting on a ridiculously high pitched fit of giggles. The hell is wrong with her? She then led us to class, skipping joyfully ahead of us. Yunho leaned in close to my ear and whispered “Since when are we close like that?”

“Since you attacked my face with your spit.” I stuck my tongue out at him.

“Uh-huh. This is going to affect my not-falling-in-love-with-you.” He smirked. “You know… since we’re so close.”

“Mm-hmm…  Whatever you say.” I rolled my eyes at him. Like I was going to fall for my own trick.

“EVERYONE!” Soo Mi clapped her hands to get the people’s attention once we walked into class. “THESE ARE THE TRANSFER STUDENTS!” She informed them all.

“Yes, thank you Miss Lee, please take your seat.” The teacher grumbled at her, lifting a small note to her bespectacled eyes. “Ah, yes. Jung Yunho, and Kim Gaejoong, is it? I’m Mrs. Kim, and I will be your Korean teacher for the year.”

I blinked as the entire class burst into fits of laughter. How the hell could she get my name THAT suggestively wrong? When did the J start looking like a G?!? They don’t even look the same in English! Don’t freak out… You’re a vampire now. Screw it! I bet even a vampire would be embarrassed out of his mind right now. “It’s Jaejoong actually.” I said calmly.

“Yes, of course. My apologies.” The teacher nodded. “Kim Jaejoong. Right. Well, you can take any seat you like. I don’t believe in seating charts.” There were only two seats in the middle free anyway, so Yunho and I took our places, and waited for the teacher to start her lecture.

This very sadly skinned guy turned around in his chair to smirk at me like an over evolved Neanderthal. “Hah… So, what’s up, GAYjoong.” He snickered, and his friend in the seat next to him laughed. I remained calm, pulled out some gum from my pocket and unwrapped it slowly, then popped it into my mouth. Mm… Minty goodness. Pimple faced dude looked at me expectantly. “Nothing to say, GAYjoong?”

I looked up at him slowly, and pointed at a particularly nasty looking zit on his face. “You’ve got something on your face there.” I said, cool as a cucumber.

His friend burst into laughter at that, and pimple face grimaced at me. “Shut up.” He pouted, wallowing in his low self-esteem. Needless to say, nobody else even dared to call me Gayjoong. My vampire-ness is working already!

At the break, Soo Mi introduced us to the students most of which are in almost all of my other classes. Everyone was super nice to Yunho and me. And girls started surrounding us like we were a shoe sale. This girl, Jin Su, who has these ginormous boobs, was giggling furiously at us and twirling her hair, and I couldn’t tell if it was a good thing or a bad thing, but Yunho was freaking the hell out, and grabbing my arm for dear life. “Like, oh my God.” She giggled. “You guys are like…” Giggle. “So, like… fresh, ya know?”

No, I didn’t, but I nodded anyway, and she seemed happy about it. The air around us was starting to get claustrophobic with all the different perfumes. I don’t think I’ve ever been surrounded by so much cleavage. This is a happy day. They scattered when it was time for us to get to our next class. I just couldn’t wipe the happy grin off my face. “You look happy.” Yunho commented offhandedly, as we headed down the hallway to our next class. “You pervert.” I stuck my tongue out at him. “Oooh! Nice comeback.” He laughed, and went off to his class. I glared at his back, and turned to go to biology. I didn’t even realize Soo Mi had been standing there talking to me the whole time.

“…so nobody wants to go with me, and it really pisses me off!” She grumbled unhappily, chattering at me like I was her new best friend. I really didn’t know how to deal with her. I went to an all-boys school my entire life, for crying out loud! This is the first time I’ve been physically less than three feet of a girl who isn’t related to me. “Anyway, you and Yunho should come to our table for lunch. Hey, how long do you think Yunho will have his braces on for?”

“Um… I’m not sure.” I answered, trying to find class D-156.

“Because Jin Su and me are arguing on whether or not he’d be a hawtie without his braces. I say yes, but she’s thinking he would look the same. Although, he’s already pretty hot, if you ask me.” She jabbered on. I wasn’t sure what a hawtie was, but I guessed it was a good thing. I tried to pay attention to what she was saying, but it’s hard to catch every word. She talks so fast.

“Yeah, I guess he’s good looking.” I nodded nonchalantly. “He has a really nice tan.”

“Yeah! That’s what I said!” She looked me up and down and smiled. “You know, you’re pretty good looking too, but you probably hear that all the time.” She said, obviously deranged and in need of a pair of glasses. “I think we’ll be very good friends.” She grinned at me.

“Okay.” I mumbled. “Oh, here’s my class.”

“Okay! See you in math!” She waved good-bye and walked away. What a nice girl. I think we WILL be good friends.

I got into biology class, which sucked at first, because it’s one of those partner classes, and everyone was already seated with their friend. I slid in next to this tall guy I thought I recognized from Korean class, but I was completely off target. This was the only class I had with him. I decided introducing myself would be polite. “Hey… I’m Kim Jaejoong.” I tried to glamour him with my eyes, when he turned to look at me. It seemed to work for a second. Our eyes locked and he leaned in really close to my face. YES! GO VAMP POWERS!

“You’ve got an eyelash stuck there.” He said and brushed it away. Woah… Does everyone in Seoul just touch you without permission? “I’m Shim Changmin, resident genius. Nice to meet you.” We shook hands.

“Ah, a modest person.” I grinned, not caring if he got offended. I could just whip out my fangs and have him running away screaming like a little girl. I should remember that I’m not ACTUALLY a vampire and calm down a little bit. “It’s so rare to come across these days.”

Changmin grinned at me. “Yes, good sir. It seems modesty is no longer a trait people admire. How sad that the world has come to this.” He sighed exaggeratedly. “When will this tragedy end?” He cried.

I blinked at him. Wow, no one has ever played along with my random dramaticness before! Not even Yoochun! This guy’s AWESOME! “When indeed? Are we the only two souls still thirsting for a drip of modesty?” I continued theatrically.

“Dude, I think this is going to be a fun year for us.” He grinned, I nodded in agreement. This will be a fun year. It’ll be the year I get a girlfriend… MANY girlfriends! And quite possibly a haircut later this week, I almost can’t see through my bangs anymore.
