Summary: Post-CotW. Fraser thinks about why he can't have what he wants.
'Hey, Fraser, you got any secret Mountie tricks for keeping warm', Ray said as he rubbed his hands and warmed them in front of the fire.
In the orange light, Ray's eyes appeared fiery in color. Fraser's breath caught.
'The Inuit do have numerous ways of exchanging body heat. For example, you could sleep with the sled dogs...'

Fraser lay very still. Ray was pressed tightly against him in their sleeping bag. His arm lay across Fraser's side. Fraser didn't know who's snoring was louder; Ray or Dief. Ray's scent, a combination of sweat and wood smoke, was practically intoxicating.
Fraser closed his eyes and tried to sleep. Sleep seemed as far away as the bright lights of Chicago.
Fraser reasoned that if he was strong enough to withstand the allure of a warm, sleeping Ray, than he'd be strong enough to send Ray back to Chicago when the time came. Fraser wanted more than just friendship from Ray. Sometimes, Fraser had a feeling, a hunch, that Ray wanted something more too, but he couldn't let himself hope. The last time Fraser had gone after what he wanted, it had ended with Ray Vecchio's bullet being caught in his back.
