Ianto looked around the hub. The glitter and confetti would have to be swept up before he went home. Gwen had said it wasn't a birthday party without them. Ianto thought about all the people he had known who would never celebrate another birthday.
When Ianto had been younger, his mum had always baked him a batch of fairy cakes on his birthday. She had always said that a birthday meant you were one year older.
Whilst working at Torchwood, Ianto had come to a different conclusion.
Birthdays didn't mark being another year older, but just another year of surviving.
