I just got back from NYC last night, it was probably the best NYC trip of my life, and I've had a lot of them. I spent five full days with Hawa, and at the end of it we like each other more than ever. I'm almost a little shocked. It was like a perfect trip, we didn't waste a second of it.
We got in around five on thursday and went out for chinese-cuban food, something you only find in NYC. Friday we went to the Harlem/Washington Heights area and got PIRAGUA. The guy had the same accent as the Piragua Guy in "In The Heights." We saw all these amazingly dressed Muslim women which was beautiful, and then we finally found the african market I spent 4 hours looking for the last time I was in NYC. I got an awesome wall hanging for black Allen to take to Princeton (OH SHIT PRINCETON!). Then we met up with my sister and Robert (HE KNOWS HIS COLORS AND HE'S NOT EVEN TWO. THIS BOY IS A GENIUS.) and got the best Pizza in NYC and then Coldstone, which was on my list of things I needed to do before I went to college. Anyways, you guys don't need a play by play, but I got an awesome mani/pedi, saw an avant guarde hispanic play with Zoe (SHE GOT INTO PURCHASE YESSSSSSS) and wandered around St. Marks Place in the east village getting yelled at by snot nose punks.
None of that matters though, when compared to "In The Heights!" It was amazing. I cried tears of immense pleasure when it ended. It was everything I imagined and more. You guys all need to see this play. Seeing it original cast was amazing, they were better than the sound track. Hawa was geeking out over the lighting design and the shoes, and I was simply blown away by the power of the ensemble. These were not Broadway singers, they were Hispanic singers who did Broadway. Simply amazing. And I am now in possession of a program signed by all of the original broadway leads. *DIES*
Anyways now that that's over I have my list of things to do before I leave for college:
- Go to Seabreeze
- India House buffet lunch
- KC tea and noodles lunch ($4.95 you can't beat it!)
- Get my music in order with fresh copies of everything
- See the CS kids and the SOTA kids one last time
- See everyone else.
- Go see Anna at MacDonald's
- Go to Spot (probably with Hawa)
- Get lots of hugs
- Get all my dorm and school shit bought and organized (I don't wanna do this shit)
- Practice voice lots, I won't have much time when I start school
- Cry, most likely this one is unavoidable, even though I got through the whole end of school without crying in front of a large group of people
- Have a panic attack because I have so much stuff to do (possible avoidable, I'm not sure yet)
- Maybe go to Ithaca, it makes me sad that I don't think I'll have time, but I may have to work it in for the sake of my mother.
- Clean my room, throw a lot of shit out.
I have two weeks to do all of this. Shit. I'm going to go get started now.
