Fic for the Angestfest Contest
Title: Red Lullaby
Rating: PG-13
Characters/Pairing: Kyo/Shinrei, sort of
Summary: Kyo's thoughts during the fight with Shinrei.
Notes: I only have bits and pieces of canon information past volume 24, so there is a small possibility that something may not jive. Based on the idea that: Kyo actually seemed depressed about killing Shinrei and the fact that Shinrei kept gushing over Kyo in flashbacks. :D Also, yes it is uber short.

Despite how much he's grown and how drenched in blood he is, Shinrei hasn't changed at all. He still reminds Kyo of the boy with that beautiful smile, who was so clean, pure and out of place in that dungeon that it hurt. He didn't want to kill him, but this relentless person wasn't going to give him a choice. It was time to say good-bye.
For years, thoughts of the first person to ever call his eyes beautiful had sustained him. Knowing that he was out there, living his life in a perfect, protected world had filled him with ease. If he was going to be the one to erase that smile, then Kyo was going to pay for it.
"I'll join you in hell!"
It was said loudly, yet with all the gentleness that Kyo could muster, as if he were about to send a child off to sleep. His blade flew downwards, like the caress of the hand, ready to close Shinrei's eyes in a mask of red.
