Akira comes back! Hehe... hope this is not another butchering of the pair! *looks around in fear!*
Tokito tensed up. A familiar sensation. The air chilled and the vibrant flowers froze up at an instant. Tokito’s heart began to flutter as she saw her breath condense in midair.
Ice.
Ice swallowed the ground. Tokito caught sight of a man who stood under the shadows of a magnificent oak tree- the latent man was the source of ice.
Her lungs filled with cold air. Her backbones twisted in shivers. She discovered within her memory, the very same icy vapour that now surrounded her small body… from many years ago- from a duel she had never forgotten.
The figure walked into the sunlight, away from the dark silhouettes of midday. Tokito’s body electrified as the man unsheathed a pair of swords- the two-headed dragon was revealed. He had come back to Mibu. Under the calmness of his icy breath danced white fires.
“Go inside to your father, Hikito.” Tokito firmly ordered her five-year old daughter. She tightened the grip on her mother’s kimono. The child’s large blue eyes did not shed a tear, but she was restlessly shaking in fear of the man who stood in front of her. She saw that her mother was growing increasingly pale.
“Stay, Hikito-san.” The serene man said otherwise. “I’d like to see you.”
Hikito wondered how he would see her, for his eyes were closed shut;
“No.” Tokito spoke as she drew her own swords. “Hikito, go inside.”
Her daughter obeyed her. The little girl scurried away and they were left alone in the middle of the same garden where they last saw each other; the garden radiated with the same sweet scents of spring as before.
“How wonderful, Tokito-san. A loving wife and a mother, complete with the heir to her father and the new ruler of Mibu as her husband. And look at that! A little Shinrei-Tokito baby roams amongst the flowers. A perfect family, yes?” The samurai approached Tokito slowly, smirking bitterly. Every time a millimetre between them faded, she could hear her heart wail.
“And you love your dear husband very much, I’d assume. He must be caring, sweet, selfless, powerful, born of the mighty Mibu clan; not a common and pathetic human like me, of course. How touching.”
“Akira…” she whispered.
“And you…” the former member of Shiseiten was stirred at the sound of her voice. He missed the rudeness in her voice, although he could never admit it. “You are still so arrogant and weak.” He lowered his weapons as tears began to fall from her eyes.
Again… he thought. still so damn fragile.
“Why are you here, Akira?” her voice trembled as she attempted to gather her tears. “You left me, remember? You insolent, rotten, worthless, stupid, dumbass, garbage…”
“Still foul-mouthed. Motherhood did not change you much, I see.” Then he added cynically as he slightly tilted his head to the right: “and still impatient.”
The last adjective crossed the line.
“Impatient? You expect me to be patient? Why should I wait for someone who leaves without a word, you f*cking asshole? Give me a f*cking break. Why the hell should I wait for you?”
“You shouldn’t, Tokito-san.” Akira snapped as he moved closer to her. “There was no need for you to wait for me.”
Silence filled the small space between them.
“Why are you here?” Tokito asked again, only this time with more attitude.
“No reason, Tokito-san. Just wanted to see everyone.” the young samurai smiled with a bit of melancholy as he replied: “I was, however, hoping to have the duel we have promised of each other in this fine weather.”
More importantly, why did he leave? Why did he listen to her when she told him to get out of her sight? He never listened to her anyways, and he usually did the opposite of what he was told. Never once did he pay attention to a single thing she said, and all she would ever get out of him was a mocking smirk that painted his lips rather than obedience. Why did he obey her command? What forced him to leave? Had she hurt him?
Tokito wanted to ask more questions, but her pride would not let her.
But after all, did it even matter? Her chest ached at the sight of the powerful swordsman whose faith could not be conquered by anything in the world. She would never admit how much she missed his icy presence.
“Akira, you sick bastard. How dare you…” Tokito cried.
“I dare not re-enter your life like this, Tokito-san, if that is what you are worried about. It is now too perfect for me go near. I do not matter anyway; and you are of no concern to me. I am simply here to see the Shiseiten and Kyo.” He said wistfully as he re-sheathed the swords. “and I see it now. You are happier without me, Tokito-san. All I bring ever are tears, it seems.” He turned around to walk away. “We can postpone the duel.”
“Don’t you ever f*cking walk away from me again!” the former member of Taishirou screamed. “I order you to stay here.”
The samurai was startled. He swirled around in honest puzzlement. What more did she want from him? He was done annoying her by teasing her- and he promised himself to forget about her once he left Mibu. This visit to Mibu was to be the last, and the last time he’d see her. Once more, he convinced himself, and then, nevermore.
“I order you to stay here forever, jackass,” Much to his disbelief, Tokito reached over and gently touched his scarred back. “Or I’ll kill you.”
Akira could not help but grin with joy. Maybe she did once love him after all.
“Still as demanding as ever.” Akira slowly opened his eyes and revealed his deep blue eyes. The stoic’s eyes were wet, but he did not allow even a single drop of salty water of himself.
“And still as beautiful.” He reached over to touch her lips with his thumb.
He had missed her. It felt as though he had forgotten to breathe, or live for that matter, while he was away from her. His heart screamed to embrace and claim her.
“What did that bastard Shinrei deserve to tame such an aggravating shrew?” Akira pulled her close and pressed his forehead to hers. Regret filled his entire body. Everything was a mistake.
“He stayed.” She bit right back. “And had the balls to ask.”
“I was too late.” He frowned with a hint of sarcasm.
“For that, I hate you.” Tokito raised her weapons and crossed it just behind his neck, her head still against his. “And if you leave again, I’ll kill you.”
“I must leave, Tokito-san. I have better things to do than to watch Shinrei’s daughter growing up to resemble you. I would end up loving her as I would my own daughter, and that frightens me.” He breathed harshly upon her lips as they inched closer. He did not want to leave. He wished to stay and take the girl who frailly stood before him; but the fate had a different opinion.
“I will leave as soon as the dawn breaks tomorrow. I just thought I’d tease and aggravate you.”
“Why? Why must you always mock me?” She gritted her teeth.
“Because you seemed so happy bathing in the sun. Maybe I was jealous of your happiness, although jealousy is such an illogical emotion. I am a human, I realize, and therefore a victim to such ridicule.” Akira sadly chuckled.
“Unfortunately, I do not even know why I am here- I must assume that my feet led me to this city, so I could confirm that you are happy and that I can move on.” He pulled away from her reluctantly and tried to smile a little.
“Not that I care. I sometimes do illogical things, much to my dismay. We can forget about the duel; for it does not matter any more.” Akira knew that everything he spewed out of his mouth was a lie. He lied, so that Tokito would not feel guilty about hurting him. He lied in order to convince himself that he could go on without her- that it did not matter. His entire body ached to kiss her, but he knew better. She belonged to Shinrei now. Despite his hatred for Fubuki’s poofy-haired heir, his pride refused him of her.
His cruel words seared into her skin, and the Taishirou growled in despair. He would leave her once more, no matter how much she would plead to him- and he would never come back again. It was all a mistake.
When the young swordsman swiftly twirled around as to not hesitate, and faced the house, he was met with Shinrei, who stood on the doorstep. Shinrei had already pulled out his curvy weapon and paternally protected his small daughter behind his legs.
“What do you want, Akira?” the new ruler of Mibu seethed through his clenched teeth. “Are you here to destroy everything and make our lives miserable?”
However, Akira’s eyes were fixed on the face of the young girl who held desperately onto her father; he did not register a single thing that was said to him.
He observed Hikito’s peculiar looks. The girl’s hair was light blond with a hint of radioactive green, and her eyes, dazzling blue.
He then knew that Tokito did not bear the child of Shinrei; and for the first time since he reached his “limit” and surpassed it, he did not know what to do.
“Hikito…” The youngest of the Shiseiten awkwardly stared into his newfound daughter’s fair face and failed to find a single trace that did not resemble him or Tokito in some way; nothing of Shinrei was there.
We had a child together?
He swore that he saw the world actually crashing down on him. Why did Shinrei stay as Tokito’s husband when “his” daughter looked so much like Akira? The little girl had Akira’s arrogant nose! And Tokito’s small figure!
Hikito, in confusion and fear of the strange man’s gaze, burst into tears.
Akira remembered that Shinrei’s never lied. He really was here to destroy the fine balance.
