Don't sweat the small stuff.. and it's all small stuff

I think something that's a really big issue, and causes depression, and obsession, and even blocking the achievement of what we want, is something I just wrote a really long email to someone about.

I think either in life, or on a particular issue, or whatever, we have most of what we want. Like, 90%. But we take that 90% for granted, whether we mean to or not, and just focus on the 10%. Because it's such a small percentage, and if we could just break through it, we'd have 100% of what we want. But by focusing on what we don't have, we think about it too much, and lose sight of the big picture. The 10% plagues us.

I think people would be so much happier and satisfied with the world around them if they looked at everything on a whole. Think about all of the good things in your life, most of the time. Think about the small negative parts of your life, a small amount of time. Proportion.

I feel like it sounds stupid, but so many people I know around me so blatantly allows that small percentage to consume all of their thoughts, and thus their actions, conversations, life. It's something small like a person doesn't like you, or you can't get something you really want, or you aren't in some way who you'd like to be. Letting it consume your mind makes you a. constantly unhappy, b. an obsessed person, and c. putting so much effort into it, that it's overbearing, and hinders you from actually getting what it is that you want.

I'm sure I do it, because I'm a lot unhappier than I let on people to believe I am. But with this knowledge, at least maybe I can try to fix it.. and hopefully people who read this will also take it to heart.
