Chapter 4: Good-byes
Screams and shouts were heard as soon as the automatic doors opened. A gust of wind blew into the airport along with the hottest Korean sensation around. The five severely underweight boys walked in, took off their sunglasses, and looked around the room as if they were curious. It was as they suspected- filled with teenage girls, and women that looked like they were old enough to be their mothers, all screaming and squealing in attempt to get their attention.
“Oh my god! It’s them!”
“U-know oppa! You look so much more handsome in person!”
“Move! I have to seem them!”
“Xiah, I love you!”
“No! You move, idiot!”
“CHANGMIN!!!!!!!!!”
The five members shyly waved to their fans as screams and phrases such as, “he waved at me!” could be heard. To the members, it was obvious that their fans were completely dedicated to them, and it was definitely not a problem that Girls’ Generation would try and steal them. Cassiopeia was the most loyal fan club around, and they followed the members wherever they went, even if they left Korea.
The idea of Japan however, scared the members more than anything. In Japan, their plan was to recruit more fans to their already-crowded fan base, and the idea of their fans swallowing them up sent chills up their spines.
Changmin was the first to speak up from the dead-silenced five boys. He had a hand on his stomach, and his face was the shade of pale beige.
“Gosh! I’m so hungry!” He yelled as half of the fans squealed in amusement. “When the hell are we going to eat?”
“Changmin, you just had lunch! How could you be hungry when you picked off of my plate?” Junsu decided to make his point clear by emphasizing the words.
Changmin stuck a tongue out at the angered Junsu. A war was about to begin between the two gods of the east. It was obvious, with their harsh expressions and childish actions.
“Oh stop it!” Yunho commanded almost immediately. “Or else they’ll see how immature we’re being and rethink about being our fans!” His eyes lead the currently fighting members to the crowd of girls and women.
Changmin and Junsu folded up their arms while they glared at each other with childish stares.
Yunho resigned from lecturing the boys and resumed walking by Jaejoong’s side.
For Jaejoong, it was difficult to talk to Yunho after the previous day where he had so vividly moved his heart. Jaejoong wasn’t sure about what he exactly felt for Yunho, but a dominant part of him lusted for Yunho’s charm, and he couldn’t explain how that part suddenly appeared.
“So…” Yunho once again decided to break the silence between the two of them. “How do you intend to break apart from Sang-Mi now?”
Jaejoong looked up at Yunho with a blush on his face. It was very difficult to look straight into his eyes. “O-oh… U-um… I’m not sure… I might do it on the phone… but I feel like I’ve wasted too much time.”
Yunho looked at Jaejoong curiously. “Have you figured out the answer?”
Jaejoong slung his bag over his shoulder with ease, and turned back at Yunho with a sharp glare. “What answer? Did you give me a question?”
Yunho rolled his eyes. “That question, about if you really loved Sang-Mi or not.”
Yunho’s words stung in Jaejoong’s head. He didn’t know what to reply Yunho with, nor did he know the answer to reply himself with. It didn’t matter to him at the moment, yet, it seemed as if he was responsible for the answer at all times.
“I’m not sure…” Jaejoong finally spoke. “One minute, she’s blowing cold, then she blows hot… I’m not so sure if I do like her anymore…”
Yunho looked inquisitive. “What do you mean?”
“Sometimes, I feel like I can’t stand her anymore!” Jaejoong cried as they distanced themselves from the fans into the boarding area. He dropped his bag into the machine that
responsible for checking and x-raying the luggage. “I can’t stand Sang-Mi! I don’t what’s wrong with her these days! In the beginning, when I first met her, she seemed as if she was totally dedicated to make me happy! Look at her now! She expects so much from me, yet she insists that she doesn’t expect anything at all!” Jaejoong drew in big breath as he finished his sentence. Yunho, along with the other three members stared at him, wondering if he had anything else to say.
“Very descriptive Jaejoong, you should become an author someday.” Changmin suggested as he chewed down a piece of candy.
“Why you…” Before Jaejoong could make his point, he was alarmed as he saw a
spark of color sprint past him. After the spark of orange disappeared, he heard a familiar voice dash after the strange figure.
“Mr. Smith!” A girl’s voice yelled. Just then, the familiar voice strode past Jaejoong and caught the strange orange figure he had saw pass by.
Jaejoong turned around, amazed to see what was in front of his eyes at this point. Sang-Mi and her puppy, Mr. Smith was apparently playing a game of fetch. It seemed though, as if the dog was acting as bone and the human was fetching after the dog.
It was hard to stop himself from laughing at the scene, but he apparently couldn’t control himself. He walked up to Sang-Mi and her dog, while Sang-Mi still hadn’t realized he was there.
“Mr. Smith, how many times do I have to tell you?” She regained control over the dog. “Get in the cage! Our flight is the next one!”
Sang-Mi looked up from her dog at Jaejoong. She was surprised as much as he was. They looked at each other, overflowing with confusion, wondering why each person were here at all.
“What the hell are you doing here?”
The two simultaneously called out to each other.
After the unanswered question passed, Jaejoong remembered the assignment that SM asked him to accomplish: to simply rid himself of Sang-Mi. It was an impossible task that he would put off to the last minute, but with her right in front of him, it was difficult not to say it an get it over with.
“Isn’t that Sang-Mi?” Whispered Yoochun to Junsu. “Wasn’t she his math tutor? I saw him a couple of times, studying with her.”
“Now that you mentioned it, it should be.” Junsu whispered back. “Who knew he would end up with her?”
Jaejoong overheard the members’ conversation, and glared at them with an uneasy expression. He then turned back to Sang-Mi, with a serious appearance on his face.
“Sang-Mi… I don’t know how to say this… but…”
Sang-Mi stomped her foot on the floor before Jaejoong could finish his sentence. “Jaejoong! Don’t be irritated… but… I-I…I have to leave you!”
Jaejoong was surprised. “What do you mean, ‘leave me?’” His hand picked up his luggage from the other side of the machine; he slung it over his shoulder again.
Sang-Mi sighed. “I’m moving to France… my mother has an internship there for the fashion industry.” She was breathing heavily now. “Please understand! I can’t bear to hurt you or myself by continuing this relationship!”
Jaejoong nodded his head, astounded that Sang-Mi had gotten to him first. The task was easier than he had expected, and now his obstacle for the day was vanquished.
“The truth is…” He mumbled. “I’m going to Japan… to promote Dong Bang Shin Ki there…” Jaejoong spilled out his truth. “I was about to tell you that I was leaving you.” He put a hand on his head and bowed in apology.
Sang-Mi shook her head. “No, no! It’s my fault!” She looked at him, her eyes saddened. “That’s why I’ve been acting so strange lately. I had no idea how to break the news to you! I was just too confused!”
Jaejoong was traumatized. “So… that’s why you acted like a snob in front of me!” Jaejoong covered his hand to his mouth. “I mean…” Jaejoong had unexpectedly realized that he had called Sang-Mi a ‘snob.’ Sang-Mi: his former math tutor… that had helped him understand the art of calculus and statistics… was called a ‘snob’ by her own student.
“I’m sorry… really.” She apologized. “Don’t take it seriously. It’s just that… I’ve never left Seoul in my life. It was really hard for me to just get up and leave.”
Jaejoong fully understood now. All the clouds in his path were cleared and diminished. But a part of him wondered why he had chosen to be with Sang-Mi in the first place. He thought about it carefully, and about the question Yunho had asked him the night before. He had finally made a decision, Sang-Mi was nothing more than a teacher to him, and it was crystal clear to him at this time.
“To be truthful…” Jaejoong decided to drop all his nervousness. “I never really loved you to begin with… you were nothing more than a teacher…a friend…to me.” Jaejoong looked down at Sang-Mi. “Trust me, it’s no lie.”
Sang-Mi’s expression stayed serene. “Don’t worry about it. It was me who asked you to mend my heart after I broke up with my boyfriend.” She grinned. “I just needed you to hang onto. It was my mistake, I should’ve thought about it more thoroughly.”
Jaejoong could hear the members mumbling among themselves. His manager noted for them to hurry up and end the conversation. He was unsure about leaving her, would he ever see her again?
“We still can be friends, right? Even though we‘re not in that kind of relationship, right?” Jaejoong asked Sang-Mi curiously. He had a friendly smile on his face and Sang-Mi replied him with the same look.
“Sure.” She answered.
“Will you hurry up?” Changmin asked the twosome rudely. “Hyung, I’m getting really hungry!”
“Okay, okay!” Jaejoong notified. He then took a look at Sang-Mi one last time. “I guess this is good-bye then…we’ll meet again someday, right?”
Sang-Mi beamed. “Of course!”
The two bowed respectfully to each other, and turned around to leave for their own flights. No matter where they were going - Tokyo or Paris, the two still promised to remember each other. The teacher and student were both satisfied - the student from all of the useful information he learned from the teacher, and the teacher from the love she sought from the student.
As soon as the five members stepped on their private plane, rain flooded the town of Seoul, making the tall buildings sparkle. Jaejoong took a seat next to Yunho, while the talented Junsu sat by the dandy Yoochun. Changmin sat by himself, and ordered an ice-cream sundae. Everybody was in high spirits about their upcoming lives, and their adventure in Japan.
Yunho took off his headphones that he was currently listening to and cleared his throat. “You guys!” He remarked. “Promise me that when we’re in Japan, we’ll have fun!”
Jaejoong nodded. “Of course!”
The other members agreed. “I can’t wait to get off the plane!” Junsu spoke excitedly. “I’ve always wanted to go to Japan!”
“I’ll have fun…” Changmin spoke up. “Just make you take me out to eat a lot!”
Everybody glared at Changmin hopelessly. Junsu managed to send a push to his shoulder and steal a piece of his ice-cream he was oh-so-enjoying. The five members laughed nonstop as Changmin pulled on a depressing face.
Jaejoong looked at Yunho indifferently. How the hell will I tell him? He thought to himself.
He had planned to spend the whole flight socializing with Yunho.

Was it too short? It was, wasn’t it? I tried to upload this chapter in a rush because I have a Science Olympiad competition on Saturday. How evil of it, trying to abridge the length of my fan fiction!
P.S. I considered Changmin to be extremely funny in this chapter. I mean... seeing Changmin hovering over an ice-cream sundae would make me numb from laughing!
