Game exchange?

Apr 05, 2011 16:52

Has anyone here ever tried doing some game exchanges? I know there are a few games I've been on the lookout for, and am more than happy to consider getting rid of one or two of mine I don't play anymore.

To that end, if anyone has a copy of Burn Rate or the 1999 print of Acquire they're willing to negotiate about, hit me up. :)

I have a 3M version of Aquire, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I've seen a lot of those on eBay, and they do look nice. Is it with the wooden tiles?

No - all the tiles were hard plastic and slotted into the board.

Have you played any of the later versions?

Never had the opportunity. I was told by someone that everything was changed to cardboard!

At least one version was, but the 1999 version was pretty clean. I understand the rules changed somewhat at that point, too. I think I'd love to get the version you have with the original wood tiles, but get the 1999 version too since that's what I learned on.

Actually, another game from that eras was like this - Diplomacy. My original copy which I bought mid 70s came from Philmar, had a large box with folding board, small ruleset and small plastic counters representing armies and fleets. The Avalon Hill version (and I suspect the 1999 Aquire version is Avalon Hill as well) had a smaller board, but wooden counters.

Indeed, it's AH. The new version they released is back to cheap cardboard - bleh.

That's why I love the 3M versions. 3M is a manufacturer and I guess they thought the games would be anything they could make with plastic. There's a good feel to playing the 3M version of Aquire, just as there was to playing Feudal.

I had the following 3M games:

* Acquire - High Adventure in High Finance
* Challenge Golf at Pebble Beach - Par 72, 6815 Yards
* Executive Decision - The Business Management Game
* Feudal - The Game of Siege and Conquest
* Go - The Legendary Oriental Game of Skill
* Oh-Wah-Ree - The World's Newest Oldest Game
* Ploy - Strategic Game of Maneuver and Capture
* Twixt - Strategy Game of Barriers

and also

# Regatta - Yacht Racing
# Speed Circuit - Auto Racing
# Thinking Man's Golf - Golf
# Win, Place and Show - Horse Racing

There was an Australian company called Doppler Games that had a similar mind. I wish I hadn't got rid of them nowadays.

Neat! I'll have to keep my eyes open on eBay. :)
