i heard some really great poetry tonight. i'd never been to a slam in portland before and, thanks to our lovely house guest, i was able to go to one tonight. Cassandra from south florida. she's interesting. she has a different perspective from any i've ever really been exposed to before. she's touring all different free schools across the country, eventually wanting to start a school, herself, in florida.
in any case, i heard this one guy perform a poem from the perspective (about? from memory?) of a janitor. it was really lovely and kind of depressing. there was all this sad humor and this one moment where an old man, all delirious in old age, spoke to the wall and said "lila, lila, i miss you" of his old wife who'd passed on, before. i loved that poem. i did, i did.
i don't wanna get old like that. maybe i do, because right now i'm thinking about a spool of thread and the ocean and about how people change when i just wish it all could stay the same.
ho hum.
