Title: Firefly Liberty

Fandom: Avengers/Firefly

Warning: none really

Character: Tony, Steve, Bruce

Summary:  Everyone has their own past, the liberty crew may have more than others. Bruce helps the captain deal with the drunk mechanic.

Not for the first time, he wonders how the crew of Liberty survived without a medic for so long. It is also a wonder how he, himself, had survived so long on the outskirts of society. He glances down at his hands, noticing the slightest tremble, which worries him.

He is sure that they would not tremble while he was operating, but it did not mean that he shouldn’t take precautions.
Others would think he was taking a lot of precautions,;back before he was on the run, they were always teasing him about now. Now, he survives because of precautions, him and the crew.

Bruce frowns as he glances around the small infirmary, making sure he knew exactly where every single scalpel, needle, syringe and other items is.
It would not be good if at a moment of emergency he did not remember where something was; this was a matter of life and death.

“Bruce.”
Bruce was startled, caught up in his thoughts.
“Captain, what can I do for you?” Bruce inquired, turning to look at the captain of the ship. Bruce would forever be grateful to the other man, for allowing him to stay on Liberty.

“Do you need something for sleeping?” Bruce asked, because sometimes, the dreams of the war didn’t let the captain sleep. This time, the captain just shook his head, gratitude in those blue eyes of his.
“No, it is not me, actually, it’s-”

“Stark drinking again?” Bruce sighed, reaching up to remove his glaces and rub his eyes. Blue eyes saddened and Bruce knew that it hurt the captain to see their mechanic in such a state.

“Alright, let’s go make sure he is still conscious.” Bruce muttered, putting his glasses back on before following the captain towards the engine room.
The both remain silent as they make their way to the engine room. Everyone else is in their rooms, hopefully, sleeping, resting for another day in space.

“Doc! Come to join me? Steve too good for a drink!” Tony drawled, from his place on the ground, a drink in his right hand and a wrench in the other. Bruce sighed once again and walked forward, kneeling to check the other’s pulse and pupils.

“No, that is enough, doctor’s orders.” Bruce muttered, easily taking the drink from Tony’s hand. It made it clear that Tony had had enough to drink, since when sober, Bruce would not have been able to take anything from Tony’s grasp. Not without a fight, at least.

“Awww, no fun doc.” Tony slurred slumping further unto the ground. Bruce placed the drink down to the side, before shifting to move Tony unto his bed. Steve quickly moved over to help Bruce with Tony.

“You know, we were the whole world before the war took it all. All the machines I created! Before I was kicked out.” Tony slurred, head lolling back, stumbling along.

“We know, Tony.” Steve answered, voice soft helping Bruce place Tony on the bed. Steve stepped back and watched, not for the first time, thankful that Bruce was part of their crew. He diligently removed Tony’s shoes, pants, and shirt, before pulling the covers over him. Bruce made sure to incline Tony against the wall, with pillows to make him more comfortable. They could not be too careful, like always, Bruce made sure to take his precautions.

“Sleep, Tony, sleep.” Bruce muttered, running a hand through Tony’s hair, watching until Tony finally fell asleep. Tomorrow, Tony would wake with a horrible hangover, and would make his way to Bruce to give him something for it.
Steve walked Bruce back to his infirmary, in silence. There was nothing to say between them, not at the moment. It was too late at night; they would talk another time.

“Good night captain.” Bruce muttered, offering Steve a soft smile, before striding past the infirmary to his room. Steve made sure Bruce made it to his room, before turning to his own room.

Things would be different in the morning…
