Title: Best Sister in the World and the Bachelo
Warning: none, crackish cause i can't help myself
Characters/Pairing: Loki/Sigyn
Notes: ugh, couldn't think of other woman to add and Freyja here, I don't see her as the goddess Freyja, but as someone else named Freyja? dunno....
Summary: Odin and Frigga are holding a contest to see who will marry Prince Loki. Loki is hoping to find someone who sees him for who he is. Sigyn is just there to protect her baby sister.
Sigyn had been working on a case when she received a beautiful little note card. It just appeared on her desk, and she knew it was from the All Mother by the beautiful script on it. She quickly read it, again, and again, and one last time to make sure that she had read correctly.
All Father was hosting a competition in order to see who would become Prince Loki’s wife? Really? What was this, Midgard with the reality TV shows? Wait a second! women from all the realms were invited? Oh dear, this was going to be a mess. Sigyn snorted and threw the card away.
There was no way she was going to show up to it. The others could go at it and fight for the love of a man, Sigyn would not change and would not submit to a man. No thank you, she loved herself as she was. Everyone else could go visit Hela!
Of course, Sigyn’s plan did not go as planned, they never did when something in her life included her sister. Sigyn was almost finished reading up on her cases, when her little sister materialized in a ball of hyperness and giddiness.
“Sigyn!!” She launched herself at Sigyn, who quickly stood up to catch her sister.
“Awyn!” Sigyn sighed pushing her sister away to get some air.
“Did you get the note? Did you? Did you?!” Awyn was jumping up and down and Sigyn just knew that she would have to have a word about people giving her sister sugar.
“Yes, I did-“
“I’m doing it!” Awyn cut Sigyn off, who just paled.
“What?! No! you are not taking part of this competition!” Sigyn hissed, wrenching the note from Awyn’s hands.
“But I am of age! I can so do it!” Awyn scoffed, glaring up at her big sister.
“You just turned of age a couple of months ago Awyn! You are still too young!” Sigyn snapped back, because Hel would she allow her baby sister to seal her life away at such a young age, especially not to a Prince because life would be worse as royalty!
“I am a woman Sigyn! Besides, I’ve had a crush on Prince Loki since that day when I was a toddler and he smiled at me in the crowd.” Awyn sighed dreamily.
Sigyn pinched the bridge of her nose. She shouldn’t worry if Awyn did compete, because she just knew that she was too young for Prince Loki……but it was the other girls that worried her. No one hurt her sister! SIgyn grimaced as she looked at the sparkling gray blue eyes of her sister.
“Fine, Awyn, I shall accompany you in this competition to make sure you are out of trouble.” Sigyn sighed, before being tackled by her sister.
Oh Norns, what had she gotten herself into? This was not going to be a good couple of weeks….She still had her job to do. Sure, there were others, who could easily take her work up and keep track of her cases. She only had the cases of robbery, so it wasn’t that hard…..still…..
“You are the best sister ever!! Come, let us tell mother!”
Sigyn wished she wasn’t the best sister ever…..
………………………………………….
Apparently, they were all to have their own wing at the palace. Just marvelous.
“Awyn, calm down.” SIgyn muttered, tugging at her sister’s hand. They each had one bag, since Sigyn easily cast a spell that allowed everything to fit in the bags.
“Well, what do we have here?” came a sneer and Sigyn should have known that she would have been there.
“If it isn’t Ms. Victorious and her little sister. How cute.”
“Go away Freyja.” Sigyn coolly replied, not bothering to turn to look at the other.
“Shut up Freyja.”
Sigyn grinned when she heard Freyja and the other girl begin to fight. She shuffled slightly forward, unable to really go far since they were waiting for the announcements and the official start of the competition. Awyn was talking non stop and Sigyn stopped listening hours ago. She was the best sister ever, but sometimes, Awyn could be too much to handle. Especially at the moment when all she talked about was Prince Loki. Sigyn was up to here, about the amazingness of Prince Loki.
“Ladies!”
The whole hall went silent. Sigyn was glad for that.
“One of you, will be the wife of my son, Loki…..”
Sigyn began to tune out because she really didn’t care about the competition. She glanced around the hall, eyes wondering over to the royal family. Frigga stood next to Odin, and it made Sigyn smile. Prince Thor stood next to Prince Loki, who looked bored at the whole thing. Her eyes widened when his eyes suddenly locked with hers. He tilted his head slightly to the side, eyebrow raised, but Sigyn just frowned and looked back at the All Father.
“Come, sis, we are going to be showed our rooms! We each get a separate one!” Awyn stated excitedly. Sigyn frowned at that, not wanting her baby sister to be on her own! Hopefully her room would be next to hers. She didn’t have to worry about having tuned out since Awyn was talking nonstop about it.
They would each get to go on walks and dinners with the Prince, and he would decide if a girl would stay or leave. They would be asked to go to all the balls and festivals and have conversations with the royal family and friends. Really? SIgyn was not looking forward to this. She just had to stay as long as her baby sister……which shouldn’t be too hard, because she was not being mean, but Awyn was just still a child.
………………………….
Sigyn was glad her sister was three rooms down. She had gone over to help her unpack, before coming back to her room. It was breath taking….beyond breath taking. So this is how royalty lived.
It wasn’t even ostentatious! It was a beautiful baby blue with accents of emerald green on the pillows and paintings. SIgyn couldn’t help grinning and jumping on her bed, enjoying the feeling of silk and softness…..like sleeping on clouds.
A little card appeared right next to her. It was an invitation to the ball, tonight. The opening ball.
The first bunch of girls would be leaving tonight and Sigyn was really praying to the Norns that Freyja would be one of the first to leave. It was not going to happen, but nothing wrong with hoping.
…………………………
SIgyn was calming Awyn down, who was really nervous about being at a ball. She kept tugging at her skirt and touching her hair.
“Do not mess with your hair; it took me a while to get it right. Do not tug at your skirt either! Calm down! You’ve been to balls before!” Sigyn hissed, slapping Awyn’s hands down.
Sigyn held her little sister at arm’s length. Even at her tender age, Awyn was beautiful with honey brown hair up in a bun with a couple of strands framing her face. Her eyes were a beautiful gray blue that shone with her youthful spirit. She was wearing a light blue dress, that had a big navy blue ribbon at the back. It was a simple dress, but it hugged Awyn’s still growing figure just right.
“You are really beautiful Awyn. Do not be afraid, I am here.” Sigyn muttered, bending down to kiss Awyn on her forehead, before leading her inside the ball.
It was not a new sight, since they had come to balls before. Not too many and not too often.
It was still a sight to behold, the spacious room and the decorations.
Sigyn led her sister over to get something to eat and drink.
“See, nothing that you haven’t seen before.” Sigyn smiled, happy to see that Awyn was indeed less nervous.
“Well, what do we have here?”
Sigyn turned, grudgingly, to give a fake smile to Freyja, who was looking gorgeous of course. She had pitch black hair with sky blue eyes. Her dress was of green satin, low cut neck with a corset that pushed everything up into your face. Sigyn was glad that Freyja was confident in herself that she could wear such dresses but she could be a bit nicer about flaunting her beauty.
“Hello Freyja, you look lovely.” Sigyn stated, sincerely, yet begrudgingly.
“Thank you, Sigyn, you don’t look horrible.” Freyja drawled, eyeing her up and down. Sigyn just stood her ground, because she might not have been Freyja, but Sigyn was not ugly either.
She knew that her violet colored dress fitted her nicely, showing off her slender waist and being low enough to give the slightest glimpse of her bosom.
“Thank you, Freyja. I am sure that compliment hurt.” Sigyn stated, smiling sweetly. Freyja glared at her.
“Look, Prince Loki is making his rounds!” Awyn suddenly cut in before Freyja and Sigyn could get into a fight.
Freyja quickly left them to rush over to the Prince.
“Come on Sigyn!” Awyn said, quickly slipping away from Sigyn.
“Awyn! Wait!” Sigyn made her way over to where Prince Loki was being bombarded.
“Prince Loki! You are so charming!” Awyn was looking up at Loki with such awe.
Loki just chuckled and leaned down.
“Thank you, you are quite beautiful little one. What is your name?” Loki inquired, curious as to who the girl was. She was sweet and still so young.
“My name is Awyn! And this here, who just arrived is my big sister, Sigyn.” Awyn stated proudly.
Loki stood back up and looked at the new comer. It was the girl he had seen at the main hall.
He couldn’t help but be awed at the other’s beauty. Her reddish brown hair was down with only a clip on the sides keeping her face clear. She had honey colored eyes and her dress was a vibrant violent.
“I apologize Prince Loki, is my sister annoying you with her incessant chatter? She tends to do that!” Sigyn smiled gently at her sister.
“Not at all, we were just getting to know each other, right Lady Awyn?” Loki turned to Awyn, who turned bright red.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Lady Sigyn.” Loki turned back to Sigyn, offering his hand to her. He saw her eyes widened, before she flushed.
“Of course, my apologies Prince Loki! It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance!” Sigyn curtsied, before placing her hand in his. He raised her hand up to his lips, slowly placing a kiss on her hand.
Sigyn smiled and pulled her hand quickly away from his.
“We know you have many more girls to meet. Come along Awyn.” Sigyn stated, tugging a whining Awyn away. Loki just chuckled as he watched Sigyn walk away.
She was different.
………………………………………….
“Brother! What did you think of the ball?!” Thor stated, throwing his arm over Loki’s shoulders.
“It was tiring.” Loki grumbled, rubbing his temples, just wanting to get to bed and away from everyone.
“Come now! There must have been someone who caught your eyes, wasn’t there?” Thor asked, waggling his eyebrows.
“I do now know brother, the conversations were too short and everything was so superficial.” Loki snorted. It really bothered him, having all the women just look at him as a thing to be won. He was a human being, not just royalty. He had already sent home a number of women who had only talked about being royalty. He knew where their minds were at.
“Do not worry brother, there must be a woman from the competitors that will love you for who you are.” Thor slapped him on the back before leaving him to go to his own room.
Loki watched his brother sway away with fondness.
Oh siblings. Huh. That reminded him of Awyn and Sigyn, the two sisters he had met.
Perhaps he would seek them out next time, they seemed normal enough.
…………………………………………….
Sigyn rolled her eyes as she poked at her food.
“Could you perhaps shut up and let us eat in silence?! Or if you decide to keep on talking, could you please discuss something other than how you dislike that girl because her hair is too curly?” Sigyn snapped, glaring at the group of girls sitting to her left.
“What do you know?” one of them sneered.
“What does that suppose to mean?” Sigyn asked incredulously, because honestly, that didn’t make any sense.
“Sigyn.” Awyn tugged at her sleeve, shooting her a look.
“Fine.” Sigyn huffed, turning back to her food.
“Good morning!” Thor called out, making his way over to the table, Loki following at a leisure pace.
“Morning.” The girls chorused, Sigyn just smiled softly.
Loki looked at her, and was making his way over to her, before he was bombarded by the other girls.
Sigyn rolled her eyes at the display, before excusing herself and going back to her room.
………………………………………………
Loki groaned as he listened to the girl talk about rabbits. She was really sweet, she really was. She seemed to genuinely care, which was good. But she just wouldn’t stop talking and Loki really did not care about rabbits. He did not want to be mean to the poor girl. Just raising his voice in any way caused her to start crying. It was a nightmare, Loki did not do well with crying girls…..or crying anyone in general really……
……………………………………………….
Sigyn walked into the huge hall. Girls were lounging about, talking and laughing.
Sigyn was unsure of what exactly she had to do there. Awyn tugged her over to one of the girls she had just met, Amaryn. Sigyn introduced herself, smiling at the shy and flustered girl. She was about the same age as Awyn, and that made Sigyn feel protective of her as well.
She was the big sister and she would make sure they were well. She glanced around, wondering just why they were there.
“Sigyn, looking for Prince Loki? You think you have what it takes to win him over?” Freyja was suddenly there, sneering at her. Sigyn was sure that by the time she was kicked out of the contest, she would have gotten into a fight into Freyja. Sigyn swore that sooner or later, Freyja would know not to mess with Sigyn and her loved ones.
“Hello ladies!”
The hall became suddenly silent, before erupting into cheers. SIgyn frowned and turned to look at Prince Loki, who had just walked in. Sigyn had to admit that the Prince was indeed handsome, with sharp facial features and emerald eyes that were always twinkling with secrets.
“Today, I get to choose someone to come with me for a ride.” Loki smirked, looking around at the girls.
Sigyn rolled her eyes when the volume in the room increased.
“Me! I want to go on a ride!!” Awyn cried out, jumping up and down.
Loki noticed Awyn and grinned.
“Well Little Lady, then it is your lucky day!” Loki grinned, motioning for Awyn, who had suddenly frozen, to come forward. Sigyn frowned when she looked at Loki, but he just winked at her.
Awyn snapped out of her stupor and rushed forward, but she ended up tripping. Loki quickly reached Awyn before she hit the floor. Sigyn rushed forward to check up on her little sister, before turning on the girl that had tripped her.
“How dare you.” SIgyn hissed, looking over the girl, eyes beginning to darken and Loki watched in surprise at the sudden energy that filled the room.
“Sigyn! Don’t.” Awyn cried out, snapping Sigyn out of her anger.
“You don’t dare touch her, ever again.” Sigyn muttered, before turning around to check up on Awyn.
“You can do magic.” Loki muttered, so none of the others could hear.
SIgyn flushed suddenly realizing what she had done and in front of who.
“Just a little bit.” Sigyn responded.
“Well, I think owe this little lady a horseback ride? Come.” Loki said more loudly, taking Awyn’s hand in his.
“I’ll promise to bring her back safe and sound.” Loki smiled at Sigyn, who frowned.
“You better, Prince or not, I will hurt you.” SIgyn warned causing Loki to just laugh.
“Of course my lady.” Loki bowed, before walking off with a happy Awyn.
Sigyn turned around and glared at the other girls, who cowered under her stare. Freyja was the only one who just glared back at her. SIgyn quickly made her way out and to her room.
……………………………………………………..
Loki laughed as he walked down the hall with Awyn. She was a lively kid. She was spoiled rotten by her family, he could tell. She was definitely beautiful and genuine in her love, but she was still too young. One day, when she is old enough, she will make a man very happy.
“Awyn.” Sigyn stepped out of her room and laughed when Awyn launched herself at her.
“I told you she would be safe.” Loki smiled at her, and it almost made Sigyn’s heart skip a beat. Almost.
“Yes, thank you Prince Loki.”
“It was no problem, good night my ladies.” Loki bowed, before walking away.
Sigyn watched him walk away, before leading her sister to her own room.
……………………………………………………….
Sigyn was confused as to what the point of this was.
“No, I am not wearing that, no, you two are not wearing that either.” Sigyn snapped, quickly ripping the notecard up.
“But-“
“No, buts, come on! I refuse to submit myself and you two to the view of a man.” Sigyn said, pushing the two girls out of the room and down the hall.
“But how are we going to entice him if not with our bodies?!”
Sigyn stopped dead in her tracks and stared at her baby sister.
“What did you just say?” Sigyn said, deadly calmed.
“Well, I heard that-“
“I don’t care, you are too young to be seducing anyone with your body, and so are you Amaryn.” Sigyn snapped, before resuming her actions of pushing the two down the hall.
“But you aren’t!” Awyn pointed out.
“I don’t need to only wear undergarments to seduce someone with my body.” Sigyn muttered darkly, pushing the two into the room in which they were all gathered. She wrinkled her nose at the lack of clothes and the number of skin being showed.
Really? Was this really necessary?
“Very much the conservative, Sigyn?” Freyja was suddenly there, behind her, Sigyn could feel the warmth of the other’s body. Sigyn just knew that Freyka would either wear nothing or the slimmest clothing that was pretty much nothing. Sigyn saw nothing wrong with it, if they wanted to wear it, but she knew some where only doing it to win favor.
“I don’t need to wear nothing to entice men, Freyja.” Sigyn responded.
“Ladies! Prince Loki will be here, please stand in line.” Sigyn was pushed into the line by Awyn and Amaryn. Sigyn turned her head to glare at Freyja, who just glared back.
Sigyn watched as Loki walked in, and it amused her to see his eyes widen in surprise, a soft blush on his cheeks, before he quickly regained composure. Sigyn couldn’t figure out which side of the Prince was a ruse or if any side at all was real. She knew that he was the trickster, master of lies. She heard the girls speak of his silver tongue a number of times. As he walked down the line, looking at each and every one of them, intensely, Sigyn felt regret that she had not gone with the undergarment decision. She shook her head, resolved that she was who she was and she was not going to change. Besides, she was not in this to win but to take care of her little sister…..and her little sister’s new friend.
Loki greeted Awyn and Amaryn before turning to look at her. She wasn’t sure if she saw a flash of disappointment at seeing her fully clothed. He raised an eyebrow at her, smirk on his lips.
“I take it you didn’t get the memo?”
“Oh I did, I just didn’t think you were worthy of seeing this.” Sigyn retorted, causing Loki to laugh. He moved down the line and it did not surprise Sigyn when he chose Freyja. Freyja shot her a look as she was led away that made Sigyn seethe, but she had to remember that she was not there to win Prince Loki. She did not care for that.
……………………………………………………
Loki watched as Sigyn was pulled onto the dance floor by Theoric. He could see the way that Sigyn’s cheeks flushed and the way her eyes brightened. He scowled and turned to look somewhere else but he could not keep his eyes from roaming back to Sigyn.
He quickly made his decision, going over and tapping Theoric on the shoulder.
“Prince Loki!” Theoric flushed and quickly stepped back.
“I was wondering if I could cut in?” Loki asked but they both knew it was a command. Theoric quickly excused himself before leaving the two. Loki immediately took Theoric’s place, wrapping an arm around Sigyn’s waist.
“That was rude, I was dancing with him.” Sigyn pursed his lips.
“Now you are dancing with me. I see nothing wrong.” Loki shrugged, smirk firmly in place. Sigyn glared at him, before sighing and fully relaxing into his arms.
“For someone in the competition to become my wife, this is the first we dance.” Loki mused causing SIgyn to flush.
“Yes well, I’m not really here to become your wife.” Sigyn stated causing Loki to come to stop.
“What do you mean?” Loki asked with narrowed eyes.
“My sister wanted to come, and I am here to make sure she is well.” Sigyn explained. Loki quickly excused himself, leaving Sigyn alone in the middle of the dance floor, confused as to what she had said wrong, ignoring that little voice in her head that clearly knew what she had just done.
………………………………………………..
Sigyn was in line again. She hadn’t realized that only few women remained in the running to becoming Loki’s wife. She hadn’t realized that Awyn, Amaryn and her still remained. How come she hadn’t realized that before? She watched as Loki made his announcement on who was to leave the palace that night.
She held her breath as he made his way down the line. He stopped in front of her, and she felt herself drowning in his eyes. Time seemed to stop and she wondered; was she going home? that thought made her stomach plummet and her heart wretched.
He passed her and moved down the line, meaning she was still in. She was not leaving. She felt someone squeeze her hand. She looked down to see Awyn smiling up at her. Sigyn smiled back.
…………………………………………………..
Sigyn watched as Freyja draped herself over Loki and it made her blood boil. She turned around and watched as Theoric asked her little sister for a dance. It was sweet, he was sweet. Sigyn sighed and glanced back at Loki, only to see him looking back at her. She held his eyes for a couple of seconds, before turning back around, her cheeks warm.
She was falling for Loki. She was falling for his intense eyes, his ever present smirk, the many tricks he played on the staff and guests. She remembered that one time there was an infestation of mice in their quarters and she knew it was Loki’s doing. It was amusing after she made sure they didn’t destroy any of her things.
She shook her head and smiled amiable at Theoric, but declined his invitation to dance.
She turned back to see Loki and Freyja heading out of the ballroom.
She was falling for Loki right when it was too late.
………………………………………………….
Sigyn glanced up at the stars, wondering, not for the first time, what the Norns were planning for her. She wondered if Loki was part of her life, or if she was destined to fall in love only to let him walk away. It was her fault, that little voice told her, but how was she to know, that she would fall for the Prince? Sigyn knew she was beautiful and hard working and intelligent, and she perhaps might have had a chance with the Prince in the end…..but…..she forced herself to remain back, aloof, hidden so this wouldn’t happen to her. But it had….it had…..
“Lady Sigyn, what are you doing out here at this time?”
Sigyn froze as the silky voice. She turned her head and there he was, looking like the Prince Charming that Awyn loved talking about.
“Prince Loki.” Sigyn was about to stand up when he raised his hand to stop her.
“Don’t, it is fine.” Loki sighed, sitting next to her.
“It is almost time for me to decide who I want to marry. Who will be my wife.” Loki muttered and Sigyn…wel… she wanted to tell him that she loved him and that she would be perfect for him.
For a second there, she almost willed herself to think that she would change and become what he wanted from her. She found herself laughing softly.
He turned to look at her confused.
“What is so funny?”
“Choose someone who will love you for who you are and does not ask you to change. Choose someone who will change because it is for their own growth and love for you, not because they are easily shaped by others. Choose someone who will remain loyal till the end, no matter what; who will take the time to understand and listen. Choose someone who loves you or that can learn to love you and who you can love in return.” Sigyn stated, placing her hand on his shoulder, before standing up and walking back to her room.
She had hoped he would stop her and tell her that he chose her to be his. She walked back to her room in silence, and perhaps she cried that night.
…………………………………………………..
Sigyn couldn’t believe her eyes; it was hours before Loki made his announcement. She was sure she knew who he was going to choose.
“Freyja?! What are you doing?!” Sigyn snapped, pushing Freyja away from Theoric.
“What? Jealous ?” Freyja purred, pulling herself up to glare at Sigyn.
“Jealous?! What about Loki?! How dare you do that to him!” Sigyn hissed, suddenly remembering how she had vowed to show Freyja not to mess with Sigyn. This was the end of the competition and Sigyn never broke a vow.
“What is a little fun-“
Sigyn didn’t let her finish and slapped Freyja on the left cheek. Freyja touched her cheek, before growling and lunging herself at Sigyn. Sigyn winced as Freyja got some hits in, but Sigyn was not going to lose this fight. No, not this fight.
Sigyn with a little magic, had Freyja pinned on the floor, glaring at her.
The sudden sound of clapping snapped the two girls from their fight. The whole royal family was there, and Loki was beaming. Sigyn quickly got up and smoothed her skirt down. Freyja winced as she got up as well, trying to smooth her hair and clothes down. Awyn rushed over to her sister, hugging her tight.
“Well, Loki, are you sure she is the one you want for your wife?” Thor grinned, slapping Loki on the back. “I think she is perfect for our son, don’t you Odin?” Frigga stated, turning to look at Odin, who was running his fingers through his beard.
“She is the one.” Odin nodded.
Loki just grinned wickedly, making his way over to stand in front of Sigyn. Sigyn stared up at him, a bit confused.
“Lady Sigyn, would you do me the honor of being my wife?” Loki asked her, and she could hear the laughter in his tone.
“She says yes!” Awyn piped up, causing Sigyn to turn bright red and shush her.
“I…” Sigyn frowned before shrugging, “what the Norns.” Sigyn wrapped her arms around Loki’s neck and kissed him.
………………………………………………………..
Sigyn was finishing up some reports when a little note appeared on her desk. It was from her husband.
‘Room, now.’
Sigyn laughed and left her cases on the desk, before making her way to their room.
Arms were wrapped around her the moment she had closed the door behind her.
“Loki!” Sigyn laughed, turning around to look up at him.
“Happy anniversary.”
Sigyn smiled into their kiss.
It was great being the best sister in the world, especially since it led her to the best husband in the world.
