Please Brush Your Teeth on Valentine’s Day

Hi, Baby.
It’s the rum for me again. Aren’t
you pleased?
I’ll be good,
don’t worry.
But it’s Valentines Day and you’re gone
again.

Let’s dissect, okay. We’ll dissect
this fine day.
On this day cards, candy,
and flowers achieve fame.
Or jewelry for some.
Even if I purchased any of
these things, you
would not be around to accept
my gifts. So what did I do?
I got you toothbrushes
to bring to your orphans.
That’s right,
toothbrushes.
For Valentine’s Day
I am sending you to Ghana
with Toothbrushes.
I’m sure Valentine’s Day does not mean
the same thing in Ghana
as it does here.

Last year it was London.
This year it’s an orphanage
in Ghana.
But the truth is
that we can love
anyway. You’ll be back.
And I’ll live.
God damnit.
Bye, Baby.

adam had to write a love poem in light of valentine's day for his last poetry class to get his english degree. he never writes like this, even if he's writing to/for me. it's neverrr so personal.
