bieber fever induced delirium

So, apparently someone took Justin Bieber's song u smile and made it 800x slower. The result is that a 3:17 second pop song turned into a 35:29 incredibly hypnotic piece of ambient music. Give it a listen. It's sort of like having a prolonged case of Bieber fever, complete with delirious hallucinations.

So, what has happened to me since I last posted a real post in April? When it comes to studying for my comprehensive exams in the fall, I've been pretty good at sticking to me one-book-per-day rule. I'll admit that it was pretty fun at first to have finally figured out how to read a book without actually reading the entire thing, but after two months of constant reading in the library, it's starting to get a bit old.

I've also been working on putting together a course as part of my comps. I'm creating a course on the history of sexuality in Canada. I'm thinking of organizing it in a way that will showcase the role that sex and sexuality, more specifically the promotion of "appropriate" and the regulation of "inappropriate" forms of sexuality, played in the creation of what we like to call the Canadian state/nation. So far, it's organized chronologically, from the contact between aboriginal and colonial sexualities to the censorship of gay and lesbian pornography by the Canadian government and border security agencies. I'll probably have to make some changes to it, but I think it's gonna be good. As far as I know, courses on the history of sexuality in Canada have only been offered at Queen's and Concordia (or was it McGill), and they were both taught by the same guy, and they were half-year courses. Mine will be a full-year course, which means it'll cover a lot more. Of course, people don't usually get to teach the courses they prepare for their comps, but it has been known to happen and I think mine will be totally teachable.

A lot of the people on my friends list who still post on lj regularly are also friends on facebook, but seeing as this is a different medium, I figured I'd end this brand spankin' new post by plugging my super awesome radio show and its equally super awesome website, from which you can listen or download episodes of the show. It's a french language punk, ska and hardcore show and I happen to think it's pretty decent. Check it out: http://souspression.wordpress.com/
