Everything but the Keys

It is a beautiful day outside. Feeling in need of some time in the sun and a Starbucks, I harnessed up Harris, stuffed my pockets with my cell phone and some cash, and set out on my afternoon adventure. The sun beat down on us as we passed by the people laughing and chatting amongst themselves while enjoying the sunshine. Normally, I might feel like an outsider walking alone watching everyone enjoying the afternoon. This time, however, I was simply out to bask in the rays of the sun and to get a caffeine fix.

I met some nice girls from Texas as I waited for my drink and left with exactly what I had come for, a large mocha frapaccino. With my mission accomplished, I headed for home. As I approached the building and thought about how I was going to juggle the dog, a drink, and dig the keys out of my pocket, I suddenly realized I hadn't even brought them with me! I reluctantly waited patiently for another resident to usher me into the building and proceeded to the front desk to request my keys from the attendant. Because I was not carrying a purse and thus did not have any identification on me, he had to call the manager who confirmed my social security number and birthday before he could hand over the keys. I am very glad he wouldn't just let anyone into my apartment, but having to go to all that trouble and involve a minimum of two people as a result of my absent-minded behavior was slightly embarrassing. I guess this just goes to show I will do anything for a Starbucks, including locking myself out of my apartment.
