The office is closing at 3:00 today as it often does prior to a holiday. Its days like these that seem like a waste. I didn't get in until 10 because of our 9:00 appointment at the vet for the boys' international health certificate examinations. Peggy is out again with what sounds like a terrible case of the flu, and TQ isn't feeling that hot either. Things are quiet in the building, and Diane might even leave before 3. Makes me wonder why I even bothered to come in at all.
I am so impressed with Eric's vet clinic. I met two of the three veterinarians this morning, and everyone was very friendly and boy to they love animals! I had a good vet back in West Lafayette but was never completely satisfied. I will definitely keep Harris' file there at Cherrydale. The exam went well as expected. We were both seen in the same room, and it was interesting to observe how differently the boys reacted to their surroundings. Harris remained his friendly, happy self, while the normally exuberant, overzealous Patrick wiggled his way under the chair in attempts to avoid the poking and prodding that was sure to follow. I have been slightly concerned about Harris' weight since his annual exam last May. I cut his food back by a half cup in September, and according to the scale today, he has lost approximately seven pounds! He is very close to his graduation weight now and looks great. I want to keep him right where he is but don't know if his current diet would continue to take off the weight or maintain it.
The process of obtaining the health certificate was virtually the same as that for the domestic ones. We didn't need a USDA seal after all, which is good with Saturday being a holiday. I don't know about other dog users, but as I have started traveling much more frequently, I have given up doing the certificate thing. I have never been asked for it, so it seems like a waste of money to me. I was surprised to learn that this was the very first time Eric had even gotten a health certificate for his dog.
I can't believe I will be in Mexico in three days. I'm not even sure I know what I am in for, though I anticipate having a lot of fun. Spending time with those who knew Eric in his college days could be very interesting to say the least. There will undoubtedly be a whole lot of drinking going on, so maybe I'll learn something new about that boy of mine. I will try to update before I leave, but if not, I'll be back in a week and a half.
