Our (former) IT Director officially retires this Friday. Today we had a little send off for him Fresno-style (Sac is having theirs on Friday).
This was the first time Mark and I have seen him since just before the surgery in October. He's doing really well. It was especially good to have some time with him since Mark and I both thought October would be the last we ever saw of him (surgery was pretty risky and he had no incentive to return to work). Mark had the benefit of most of time as I was stuck in rather pointless meetings all morning. Mark and I (mostly Mark) put together a whole mess of chili and all of the other folks brought the fixin's. Good turnout overall including four of the big guys and folks who didn't even know our former boss. He summed it up nicely afterward: "That's what I've always liked best about Fresno [division] - everyone is so face-to-face, so personable." Mark and I could not have hoped for more than that, especially since the send off in Sac is bound to be less ... enjoyable. We already miss our old boss. He was a great guy to work with and for.
