i swear, that is the LAST time i get a cab home from melbourne airport.
i've had all sorts of arguments with cab drivers in the past over fares and the unexplainable additions they make to what is actually on the meter. i've had arguments with them over the route they choose to take, and correct me if i'm wrong, but the quickest way to brunswick from the airport is definitely not via the city.
every time i get a cab from the airport i know that i'm potentially risking life, limb and wallet.
but today, i have sworn off them for good. not only did the cabbie have his id covered up by a bit of paper stuck on with some chewing gum, he ran 3 red lights, almost hit pedestrians on 2 separate occassions, talked on his mobile phone without a hands free set 3 times during the trip, turned right onto sydney road @ an intersection where a sign clearly says 'no right turn between 7am & 7pm' and then drove off with my laptop still in his back seat. i had to sprint down albion street screaming like a banshee while carrying 20kg of luggage.
when i caught up to him as he stopped @ the lights, i bashed on his boot and demanded he open up and he just looked @ me with this big suspicious but half disappointed grin on his face. i could see that he thought he had gotten away with it.
i've never had any problems getting cabs anywhere else in melbourne, just from the airport.
other than that, it was a pretty good weekend.
