Goodbye, 2020. Do let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

What a terrible year.  For me, 2020 doesn't end until the day after Inauguration Day.  I don't want to argue politics with anyone, but I'm not going to back down, either.  The last four years have been a horror show.  Every time I think it can't sink any lower, it does.

Over on Facebook, lots of people are flailing away as they try to find something good about this current year.  About the only positive thing I'll have memories of from 2020 is landscaping.  We got a lot of that done.  It's good.

If I have to reach for more bullet points, then health, mine at least, has been good.  When you don't go anywhere, wash your hands all the time, have mostly stopped touching your face, and only socialize with your partner, the possibilities of infection go way, way down.  My allergies, however, have opted to step up and take up the slack for colds and flus.  Pretty sure I'm allergic to my beloved dog.  Oh, well.  That's what OTC allergy meds are for.

2020 has been a great year for music.  Not live music; recorded, usually remotely from other band members, and quickly bundled into an album of some sort.  Bandcamp's Bandcamp Friday has seen a lot of my money this year.  The amount of fantastic music in my favorite, encompasses nearly everything, "Celtic" has been amazing.  After the initial depression, many artists and bands decided that now was a good time to make that next album.  If you like Quebecois music, Genticorum has been releasing an EP a month since September.  Beautiful artwork on the covers is a big plus for me, and I really like their favorite artist.  The tagging system at Bandcamp has introduced me to several new artists.  Rowan Piggott, son of Charlie Piggott, put together a nifty compilation of folk songs centered on bees.  While I'm not entirely sure how I got to that album, which I really enjoyed, I found his new band and bought all of their albums.  Old favorites like Ivan Drever have released their catalog via Bandcamp.  You know you've bought a lot of albums from an artist when he emails you to let you know he just released another.  This has been one of the major bright spots of this hideous year for me.  New music mailed directly to me from all over the world.  Who doesn't like getting mail?  Lots of the artists enclose thank-you notes or promotional flotsam with the CDs.  Yes, I still buy CDs, mostly as a back-up in case of another iTunes meltdown.  Just about everything you buy via Bandcamp has a download, too.  Can you tell that I just finished writing an article for our local NPR station on finding new music on Bandcamp?

As this horrible year slowly ticks to a close, I wish you and yours a better New Year. Cross-posted from dreamwidth.org
