I've lost track of time. Without my usual appointments etc., I'm having trouble remembering what month it is, and the actual day eludes me way too often. Of all the missing normals, I miss my chiropractor appointment the most. But that's life everywhere these days.
Since all of my plans for the year are cancelled, we've been concentrating on working on our house. Things we'd been considering for years are finally happening.
For one, the little room we tacked onto the house, the sun room, aka the dumping grounds, is now lined with cabinets. Well, mostly lined. The company got something or other screwed up, and they sent us N-1. The ones that arrived and we assembled look great. That weird hole by the sliding glass door can be ignored for a bit.
The master bathroom was painted. Three times. Growing up in the desert, this whole concept of mold and mildew killer primers is still weird. For whatever reason, our bathroom (and who knows which other rooms) did not get their killer chemicals added to the paint about seventeen years or so ago. However, painting was not step one. Is there ever a project that doesn't spin off precursor projects? Before we/I could paint, we needed to pull the old medicine chest off, do all the repair work, buy a new one (that was probably the step before this), get that assembled, etc. Anyway, tl;dr, it's done. It went from being a depressing "linen" to a not as light as it should have been yellow. It's been a week or so and I still like it.
The gardens look great. It's a banner year for plums. If you've any ideas on what to do with said plums, please share. We're not plum jam people. I tried making a "plum puree," figuring it would be a base for future recipes, but the taste isn't that good. Not sure what's off, but it's not that tasty to me or to the WBH. Of course, the summer fog rolled in just as the pears are reaching the stage where they either crack and mold or ripen to perfection. It's going to be a crack and mold year.
We're currently watching Dark, a German show that was touted as another "Stranger Things." The Dark should have taken notes, if it really was based on ST. Humor would really help this series. I like grim and dark and plots full of despair and human awfulness, but this has taken that sequence and squeezed it to a darker shade of angst. I can tell my guy is mostly waiting it out in hopes for something more entertaining. Just in case you don't know, the plot is missing kids and a parallel plot between 2017 or so and 1986. All of the characters are awful in one way or another.
I am not reading anything, unless you count way too much news. The Fabulous Connie has sent her first draft to me. I owe her, not only as a wonderful friend, but as a person who's slogged through my many, many manuscripts. Tomorrow, I've told myself, there will be a few hours set aside to start reading. Must get my mind right to be able to comment properly.
Knitting. Eh. All the gardening has done something to my left wrist. It needs to rest for a bit. Also, the current project is a Christmas present for a person who let it be known that what she really wanted last Christmas was something knitted by me. Yes, it was very weird, but at least I know what she wants/expects.
Covid. My county is not doing well. It was for a long time, but now, not so well. It would be easy to point fingers at the tourists, but it really looks like a lot of the spread has been through family gatherings and church services. Our local long care nursing facility just got hit. There's a loud local opinion that we ought to close all the campgrounds, beaches, hotels, motels, campgrounds, etc. People are either overwrought or indifferent. Either you can't be in the same grocery store aisle with them, or they're tugging their mask off as soon as they get into the store.
