I had to pass through a security check point yesterday and by that I mean go to a court house.
But that's not important. What is, is that in an effort to get through as soon as possible I just took what I needed with me and a book to read because I didn't know how long I'd be.
I dump my keys, cell phone, wallet, and a book into the bin - as I'm reading Twilight it was the book I had handy to bring with me - the officer looked at the book and said that he had been seeing it everywhere lately and what was it about. I tell him it's the latest craze and a basically a teeny-bopper book. He then tells me to go through the metal detector as his shoves the bin with my belongings through the x-ray machine. There's two additional guards on the other side and when I set off the detector as I new I would I immediately raise my hands parallel and "no" to the expectantly asked questions of did I leave change in my pocket or have a belt on and say I have a metal rod in my leg.
I get wanded and exchange pleasantries with the guard as he's amused by my rod in the leg story. Given the all clear that I am no threat to the safety of the building I turn to retrieve my belongings out of the bin. Phone in my pocket, keys clipped to my belt, wallet in my pocket and my book....which I realize the first officer is now flipping through. I patiently wait amused until one of the other guys says for him to hand over the book already as I probably have some place to get too. He almost reluctantly hands it over.
And to think I felt slightly awkward bring that book with me. Instead, it was totally worth it! :)
