And Alesha actually lied (and quite well) on the stand for James. I probably would've done the same, but it's slippery slope.
Also, between Ronnie and Matt, I think it had to be Matt arresting James. I don't think neither was necessarily happy to be charging James with anything (they were both seen smiling when James got off at the end), regardless of what has happened in Anonymous - I actually think Ronnie was more to blame for how hard Matt had to fall for that case since James was just being his usual, rather ruthless self.
But, naturally, it had to be Matt actually doing the arresting. Ronnie has obviously worked with James for a long time, even worked with James on this case six years ago together, and Ronnie tends to feel more sympathy for people who make mistakes (whereas Matt tends to be more stickler for rules and has no sympathy for those who violate them, especially for adults who abuse power over others - understandably, given his childhood experience), so it would've been supremely uneasy for Ronnie. It would've been easier for Matt to do it.
And plus, that was incredibly tactless and thoughtless of James to charge into the station and actually lay down his suspicion that Ronnie, who was in charge of bringing in the evidence, buried the witness statement. Oh, you really don't want to do that. If he really wanted to talk, he should've brought it up to Ronnie and Ronnie alone, since Ronnie might have been more understanding, but you do not accuse Ronnie of wrongdoing in front of Matt OR Natalie without any evidence - we've seen countless times how protective Matt is over Ronnie and Natalie over his boys, and this was confirmed just last epiode, in fact. James did it in front of the two, plus the room FULL OF THE OTHER COPPERS. I understand he was desperate, but that was just a bad move.
That said, the case itself was chilling and effective, and overall I think the episode handled quite well. If James had to go, this was his way to go - still intense and ruthless in the pursuit of justice. And the case itself. Yikes. There was this one chilling moment I loved when Ronnie and Matt were confronting the real killer. They both freeze when a cruifix slips from between the pages of the Bible, and when the killer says it doesn't belong to the victim, Matt looks him in the eye and murmurs, "Would you put your hand on your Bible and tell me that?" That? Was a fantastic scene.
