Shiver me Timbers!

The sun shone down, the fog lifted into the atmosphere, the birds chirped merrily, the wolf lay down with the fawn, the vampires ceased to bite, that creepy guy stopped peering at people through the bushes, and democracy was peacefully brought to the Iraqi people. All was right with the universe.

In this context Lou awoke, and realized with a start that he had disappeared into the ether without even a backwards yelp to indicate his position, let alone a kindly word to his old friends and acquaintances. When he received a letter of condolences for his untimely death, he realized it was perhaps time to make a general declaration of his security (indeed his contentment and well being), so that the poor lads back home might not worry overmuch for him.

This is that declaration.

Hey everyone, how's it going? I'm doing really damn good, and I'm loving montreal, and McGill's cool as hell, and after a year of mental stagnation (with the occasional exception of my brief and yet strangely beautiful LJ posts) it's really nice to be thinking and learning a lot. I've got some cool profs, and some really interesting courses, like Earth and Planetary Sciences which is currently addressing a topic of no less import than the birth of the universe, or Medical Anthropology, or International State Relations Poli-Sci. Intro to Shakespeare rocks my world, too. And if there's maybe too much reading with all of it, it doesn't really matter because it's all really interesting.

Frosh week was unbelievable. I can't imagine what the alternative would even be in a country where first years can't drink, because the entire thing seemed to revolve around drinking, being drunk, and drinking some more. The first day of Arts Frosh (proudly sponsored by Molson), at about 11:30 in the morning, all the incoming arts kids were assembled in a big field with a bunch of leaders on the stage chugging beer to the delight of all, and it never really seemed to stop until classes started. Free beer for a week can lead to some trouble.

I can't really describe how cool rez-life is, or anyway I don't want to, but I think you should all make it a point as soon as possible to come see for yourselves. We have a lot of space to put sleeping people, and if you come really soon there may even be some nice weather for camping on Mount Royal before it gets to cold. I lead some people up last night, for the third time, and that shit is amazing... we watched the sun poke out from behind the mountains, burning through the morning mist, and turning the whole sky bright red. Then we slept in a big heap for a while.

So that's the verdict. See you soon!

-Lou
