When you are three pages into your prompt but then you become unsure about your idea, instead write an intense aftercare bit in your kinky series where your heart truly lies and then when you close the laptop you get an idea about your prompt again. Then you forget the idea that actually made a lick of sense in your story and you'd like to box your own ears for not remembering the idea while writing a livejournal post.
