Only in New Orleans is such a night possible...
This Thursday I’ll be the featured reader at the 17 Poets reading series held at the Gold Mine Saloon, which is a real thrill for me as it is quite an honor. 17 Poets is hosted, as always, by the Poet Dave Brinks.
The reading will involve a book, a guitar and a fully stocked bar.
Immediately following the reading, the Gold Mine's famous open mike extravaganza will commence, which is always surprising, animated, enlightening and fun. Bring a poem and sign the list. Put your heart where it belongs, on your sleeve. Voila! you are part of the show.
If you've never been to a Gold Mine reading event, it is really something else. Below is a link to a short essay I wrote about a recent 17 Poets night, to give you an idea (caution: colorful language within).

As an added bonus, the night will also double as a birthday bash for the always lovely GiO, the Burlesque Queen of New Orleans (who is an astoundingly talented poet herself).
GiO has requested that folks don't bring gifts, although she will gladly accept poetry readings in her honor.
This is going to be a very special night. I hope you can make it.
I'm also scheduled to part of a panel discussion for the Tennessee Williams Festival the very next morning, Friday at 11:30 AM. (Bourbon Orleans Ballroom in the French Quarter.) I'll bring the hangover, you bring the hair of the dog.
