While I was in Texas an old friend and his wife took me out for the day including a trip around Texas' Capitol
The central rotunda. If you look up you see T E X A S around a five pointed star in the dome. From above you see the mosaic of all the nation states Texas has been a part of at one time or another.
Actually, what struck me most about the Capitol was the marriage of what I would consider Victorian/Turn of the Last Century grandeur with a kind of Wild West Iconography
One of these fine gentlemen is Houston and one Austin. I think the one on the left is Houston, but don't quote me on that!
I like these old style photographs of the Senate
All the door hinges looked like this!
The other striking thing was the marriage of, again old fashioned grandeur with not-so-cutting-edge technology. This is the House of Representatives Chamber. They vote by pressing buttons on the desks which then light up the boards at the front. The senate chamber doesn't have any such fancy voting system, but makes up for it with microphones and wired phones at each desk.
My hosts!
